socca is just socca - perhaps therein lies the beauty of it

Yup, football doesn't lead to such debates often, though it very easily could, and sometimes I wish it would more often (but not on FF - the pub is where this should and does take place

). For example, one could easily get wound up by the 'glass ceiling' in the English Premiership, where the rich clubs 'Big Four' are a cut above the rest of the league; globalised ownership of 'traditionally English' clubs ("damned yanks taking over the game") division of labour ("these damned play-acting foreigners ruining the English national team"); Abramovich using Chelsea as a rich man's play thing - all sponsored by resources "belonging to the Russian people"; social concerns about a team moving stadia; media bias etc...
But football fans often just have 'banter' with fans of other teams - joking, making fun, trying to wind each other up, etc. Those in the Jumpers for Goalposts thread know this and no-one reacts overly as they're used to it. The arguments are more on "you were lucky - he was ****ing offside!". It's all good, but we sometimes gloss over or ignore just how rotten the game is

(unless perhaps when talking in the pub)
