How many here honestly would feel like going through all that if you did not have to?
From personal experience, I know that if management and co workers are willing to put in a little extra effort, it can be easily done. Of course not every employer reacts that way, but there are many that do. Especially if the reference promise something worthwhile (like he's good and has extra skills)

You can see this things happen into France, Netherlands etc. Certain groups have been quiet so far but if their amount is rising they will create parties and the social live will change dramatically. Integration is here the keyword.
Totally agree Rick1 I don’t really want Finland to change too much one of the many thing i love about this country is its resistance to change, its slowly watches as those around mess everything up and smiles like Mona Lisa and just gets on with it. 8)
I understand other peoples frustration but i would much rather it was this way than like England or the Netherlands. Which have lost must if not all of their identity.
I have a degree and i started working as a summer worker and continued for 2 years so i would have a chance to become an engineer. 2 years doing !"#¤% manual work on three shifts just to have a chance to become an engineer in Finland. The Finns will only respect hard work NOT WHINNING!!! If the foreigners don’t like Finland move back home or another country. It’s not fair to ask the Finns to live with different rules than before just because we moved here.

Well said Rick1 totally valid point and i am a little surprised i am not the only one who thinks like this. :D

i Beg to differ with you the fact that FINNS don't speak ENGLISH does not mean that they don't understand they totally do comprehend.
I met a FINN who spoke no FINNISH at all here in FINLAND she went to elementary level here all her folks are finnish but the mum spoke little finnish her parents sought ASYLUM in the US,
Other than that i learnt that all finns old or young were taught ENGLISH in their school some chose to grasp and use it some made it dormant.
Swedish is second language but is not used as much as ENGLISH actually ENGLISH is all over FINLAND especially in the media and they have borrowed many english words.
Even most of the traffic rules and machine instructions are in ENGLISH. Common example bus says STOP every machine and cleaning needs action more than words.
So in some cases lack of FINNISH is a barrier some not i believe whatever language you speak HINDI GUJARATI ENGLISH OR FRENCH some jobs need no finnish while some need.
As long as someone is there to orientate for the 1st time then work will go on construction, cleaning, dishwashing, house keeping so on and so forth the list is endless.

Well, everything is relative. I sometimes wonder what people whine about. Define anti-foreigner attitudes.

Foreigners in South Africa... are being blamed for sky-high crime rates and depriving locals of jobs.

Same s*, different package,deliverd globally.
Cheers, Hank W.

Dr HANK i would like to bring these to your attention:
Many FINNS sought ASYLUM and Refuge in NORTH AMERICA and went there for better life, USA is also made up of immigrants.
So immigration is part and parcel of life and nothing wrong with raising a VOICE here and there it is healthy since you COAX out want is inside.
Not bottling it in like some NATIVES of a certain NORDIC country am familiar with then they are gloomy until they take KOSKEN what.
When you feel letdown, undermined, trampled upon or worse when you inflict pain on yourself it is very WISE to whine complain since every action has an equal reaction FORCE.
If people just lived without complaining then we will have no world it is due to complains that the ELITES of the world even if they continue to undermine human RIGHTS they do it not to the extreme.
A little WHINE here and there brings about NEWS story and FINALY understanding and solution actually WHINING makes the world spine.
DON'T stop whining you will bring about CHANGE what the WORLD is tired of is the same OLD philosophers who make the same OLD ERRORS.

well put well put no better way to put it.
To be HONEST FINLAND of all the countries should have the least anti foreigners attitude, since i repeat again in NORTHERN AMERICA,CANADA they make up the highest number of refugees asylum seekers and economical immigrants during a certain duration.
So they should know well that a CHUNK of their population were what the SOMALI'S are in FINLAND now what the senegalise are in spain now though probably the fins were departing on board huge ships.
Poor SENEGALISE they use some raft or useless boats, like any other immigrants the finns in their country of refuge and asylum WHINED   and grinded so to see the same people showing no amnesty to immigrants in their own land.
I can't help but laugh and laugh but don't mind me i still remind them. There is a very HUGE CHANK of finnish community in FLORIDA that will not even come to FINLAND on voluntary repertration neither will their generations do.
SO HANK ET EL GET ALIVE

Gleaming your rather incomprehensible message...

Tell me, who gets to choose what change is good? Whining immigrants who bitch because someone else but home is not like home or natives who are AT home?

When a person of one nationality travels to another nation he/she is termed as a foreigner. So, it is easy to understand that locals will always perceive foreigners as a sign/source of probable socio-economic-cultural change. The more nationalistic a country is; the more it will try to keep things the same way as they are. I don't think there is anything wrong in it. There will be always our way and foreigners way. It is human. Nothing to do with being racist. In fact, today with the fast change that is taking place in the world economy. Change is inevitable some countries will try to slow it down but, it will happen. The question here is how smart will the native poplulation be to apprehend and act accordingly to this change. The natives do not have to discard their culture rather I propose, they try to incorporate their way of living to the newly arrived foreigner. We sometimes refer to the external features of the culture. That's not what I am talking about. I am refering to the core values on which the soceity stands.

My observations goes like this, Finns are particularly aware of the change in the world. And they are very worried about the change in the population that's going to happen during the next decade and so on. I have always believed that peoples are individuals and the action of one individual cannot/should not implicate the whole community/nation. This is applicable to every on both the natives and the foreigns.

The country needs to create "only us" and "not us and them" or else it will be a disaster.

The fact is that it is very diffcult for a Finn to trust that a foreigner likes his/her country. It takes long time. But, that is the fun I guess. I have always believed that, for a foreigner in Finland "it will either make you or break you".

It is not easy to supress the negative emotions that one might possess but, one has to convert that, energy to positive activity. Those who have come in search for jobs in Finland. My advice as to the fellow foreigners are
1. Stop complaining and make a honest accessment of what you are good at.
2. Getting entry to local labour market is very tough. Check on the local norms.
3. Don't resort to any non-standard means to get work. This creates a negative effect.
4. Keep your promise. If you say something do it.
5. Don't blame anyone if you have a problem. Just fix the problem first. The try to ensure it does not happen.
6. The job demand in certain sectors are good but, as a whole it is very difficult for a Finn also to find a job.

I think, if I apply for a job in a country where I have immigrated to find a job and don't get any job. There is point is complaining. The natives always should get the preference. There can be a case if you are better than him/her.

I know most of you might not agree with me but, that is how I think. :)
