I know that I can find this information on the net somewhere, but I appreciate advice from Finland Forum
What is the best way for me to register a domain name? as in
www.name.com (for example) Any experiences or ideas if you have done it yourself?

A web search for "domain name registration" will turn up loads of results.
You can go for the very basic, just the domain name registration, which usually costs around 5-20 euros depending on the suffix (.com, .net, .dot, etc), or you can pay around 30 euros for domain hosting as well.
Examples:

http://1and1.co.uk
Look around and see the different deals they offer.

Well, the domain name is one thing, but where you host your stuff is another. I've been with
www.int2000.net for long, and they're pretty square.
Cheers, Hank W.

Domain registration is most of the time free with hosting. Here are the cheap and good ones:
http://www.powweb.com
http://www.globat.com
http://www.hostony.com
But you have to make sure, those f'kers register domain on your name(administrative contact field) otherwise when you change hosting you loose the domain. This issue could be easily solved by couple of support tickets.
If you only need a domain without hosting,
godaddy.com is the place to go. It's cheap and good. Prices should be around ~7$ for a .com domain. Don't forget to google "godaddy coupon code" before your purchase and find a recent coupon code. This usually saves another ~2$.
If you want a finnish domain name(*.fi), then it's an another story...

Hi Alicia
.com
If it is for personal use I would go to domain.com and see if it is free – not any parking sites since they tend to steal (meaning reserve your requested name and then charge a higher price) –Then find a local (Finnish I guess??) hosting company and call them and see if they sound ok; ask if they have services that meet your requirements (…Non-technical - I know it is on their web page but it is nice to get a feel of them).
After that, if you think they sound like ok people, you just go to their site and register your domain.
(It’ll be a couple of days before your domain has gone through on the web)
For business use; just choose the largest provider you can find and don’t care about the price – They usually have the highest performance on uptime and that is what you want for a business.
