Mens trouser sizes

Post by Mook » Sat Jun 28, 2008 2:58 pm

I was in a shop, looking for a new pair of strides, but I got a bit stuck with the sizes - seems to be just some random number followed by an equally random letter e.g. 80C. Now, I'd normally expect something like jeans sizing where you get the waist size followed by inside leg.

At this point the missus started saying that it's supposed to be related to height and build, but that doesn't really make sense for trousers, does it?

Has anyone found any reasonable Finnish<->normal size convertors.

Well, they are "German suit sizes" so if you wear a size 46 UK or US then thats size 56 here. Then theres sizing A,B,C,D... so A is a stick insect and D is more wide than tall. the "regular" size is C. So size 56 has a chest size of 112cm and as the waist size is 11cm less... the Germans though have their own way of "tall" and "short"...

So go to Halonen, let the people there figure out your size, and you'll know where to aim for.

Actually they are Nordic sizes. Yes, they are close to German standard, but still different.

Size 42 UK does equal size 52 here... (roughly).

Finnish/Nordic sizes:

Body types
A = Slim
B = Slender
C = Normal
D = Chubby

Body lengths
52 = normal 52
152 = tall 52 (100+52)
104 = short 52 (2*52)

so combinations:

D52 = chubby normal length 52
B152 = Slender tall 52
C104 = Normal short 52

etc...
Get in there...

Mmm, the sales assistant option wasn't available - I was in Prisma...

Men don´t buy pants in places like Prisma. They go to places like Halonen, Stockmann, Sokos where sales assistant checks the size and then carries a pile of pants to the fitting room for the man to try on. And if something is too big or too small the sales assistant goes and finds a more fitting pair.

And once they figure out their size, then they go to Prisma to get the chav uniform... though I thought the shiney tacksuits came in S-M-L-XL sizing :twisted:

Na, the missus does that...but we have limited mobility at the moment. Which was why I was looking in Prisma during the weekly shop.

At lease their sizing seems to be a bit more up-market. (and there wasn't even the slightest whiff of burberry)
