Just post that form in here and maybe someone bored/kind enough can do it and with that way it has less possibilities of errors or malicious work :)

If you don't know this already, there is a person hired by the universities listed below to help incoming students who were not able to get housing through TOAS.

----------------------------------
If you will not get accommodation from TOAS
TUT, UTA, TAMK and PIRAMK have organized their own housing officer, who will start her work from the 14th of July. She may provide information about available appartments for international students. Please note that all of the appartments she can find, will be reserved on a first come – first serve -basis for international students coming to any university in Tampere, so you should act fast. Contacting her is possible starting from 14th of July by sending email to housing@opiskelijantampere.fi

I don't speak or read Finnish so can't help but I did try Google Translate (Finnish to English) and it got most of the words (you can put in a url and ask it to translate an entire page). I think if you do that then ask for help with the odd word Google Translate can't handle, you might get some help. I know you are feeling a bit desperate but It's a lot to ask people to translate for you.

'Hakulomake' is the application form. First 'hakulomake' goes to wrong place (Peltolammi apartments), but there is a link to the correct form:
http://www.opintanner.net/pirkan/hakulomake.php

Note also, that also Opintanner has apartments in Hervanta. So basically in Hervanta you can apply to Pirkka 1 and Pirkka 2, and Opintanner 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 12. Opintanner 3 is in Hallila, that is very close to Hervanta. Opintanner 14 and 15 are in Kaukajärvi, which is maybe not walking distance anymore (6km), but there is always buses.

It says (very rough translation, my English is not so excellent..):

Hakulomake Pirkan ja Opintantereen kohteisiin
Application form to Pirkka and Opintanner

Asunnon hakeminen tapahtuu toimittamalla hakulomake ja tarvittavat liitteet asuntotoimistoon:
Applying an apartment is done by delivering the application form and needed appendixes to the apartment office

1) Voit täyttää ja tulostaa hakemuksesi verkosta ja toimittaa sen asuntotoimistoon liitteineen.
You can fill in and print your application from the web and deliver it to the apartment office with the appendixes

2) Voit tulla asuntotoimistoon täyttämään hakemuksen ja tuoda liitteet samalla.
Or you can come to the office and fill the application there and bring your appendixes at the same time.

Ali,

This was posted on the aviisi Web site. If you haven't already, you may want to check in with the International Students office of your university in Tampere to see if they agree with this recommendation from TOAS.

http://www.aviisi.fi/artikkeli/?num=9/2008&id=b1f7e58

23 July 2008

International students are advised to postpone their exchange period

"I´m in the process of sending out a message to our international housing applicants recommending they either postpone their exchange or study abroad period until the spring term, or cancel it altogether," says Ms. Katri Miettunen from the Tampere Student Housing Foundation (TOAS).

Miettunen has been contacted by 120 international students who are as yet without an apartment. Many of these students have sent their housing applications in good time following TOAS´ instructions and paid the 25-euro application fee. This fee will not be refunded even if TOAS is not able to assign any housing to the applicant.

"You can help improve the housing situation by letting your apartment."

TOAS has a quota of 600 furnished housing units for international students, but this quota has already been used up. “Pirkan opiskelija-asunnot", another student housing firm, has tried to amend the situation by arranging 40 additional housing units for international students.

Each fall term TOAS sets up temporary housing for students who have not yet found an apartment in Tampere. This year this temporary housing is at risk of being over-crowded, since the largest of TOAS locations, Mikontalo, is being repaired. Last year about 50 students had to make use of the temporary housing. There are more available apartments for temporary housing, but this does not solve the problem, since this year students would not have permanent apartments after the temporary housing ends.

TOAS is considering to implement a nightly fee and to raise the deposit payment from 40 to as much as 150 euros, so that students would not use the option of temporary housing any longer than they have to. The nightly fee could be set to three euros, for example. If a student needs accommodation only for a few days, they might not be allowed to enter the temporary housing at all.

Of course, I understand. I'm sure my daughter would be as determined.

Good luck.
