You either love it or hate it.
Feed it to your friends and if one in ten likes it, it is probably right.
If you loose the other 9 friends, don't worry, you're coming to Finland, so you would loose them anyway.

if it tastes and looks like dehydrated guinness, you're about there... take a bowl of cream and sugar and throw the mämmi away... or how was it now... its a medieval dish actually from an era you had a bit interesting habit of fermenting dishes... other one would be
imelletty perunalaatikko, the knack is you actually need to have/make frostbitten potatoes to do it...
you could try to find a local finn and let them try it ( a reminder of why they left)

These replies made me laugh my arse off.
I told my Finnish friends about how i made it, and they all mocked me for falling for their diabolical plan!
I didnt mind it, it was tolerable with some nice double cream and a raspberry coulis.
I know its blasphemy, but i was actually thinking i could do allot to modify and improve it - Maybe increase and play with its citrus flavors, tinker with chocolates and spices.
I think you could really do something nice there.
After the Fins were done mocking me, they pointed me to a finnish dessert that is apparently quite nice.
"Karjalanpiirakat" I googled up a few recipes, and it seems nice and tasty. Rice pudding in rye pasty.... Who'da thunk it?
i really wanted to make Veriohukaiset, but when i went to the local butcher and asked if he had a liter of blood he could buy, he went pale and probobly called the cops after i left - Suspecting me of some kind of satanic sorcery no doubt.

Yoy can do whatever to mämmi, its hideous.
And about karjalanpiirakka, its good! with "munavoi" and some cold cuts its excellent.
And tell your local butcher that in finland you can buy blood in supermarket

and verilätty/veripalttu/verimakkara is good food.
You maybe want to try poronkäristys or riistakäristys depending what you get in market, you need cranberry souce and mashed puikulaperuna for real thing tho.

I like
mämmi and
imelletty perunalaatikko
But if you tinker with spices it won't be
mämmi anymore
But go ahead and tinker with
veriohukaiset, like leave the
veri out
Pinaattiohukaiset are good. I can't think of anything more nightmarish than
veriohukaiset and
ruispuuro

veriletut we had to eat at school that turned me into a vegetarian

Those turned me in "i cant eat" mode for small verilettu. And i can and will eat everything. I just cant put small verilettu in my mouth. So i understand what youre feeling but it can be a good food

(if its not small, somehow i found those repulsive)

It is actually more a side dish for a coffee table, Finnish desserts are mainly sweet.
But Karelian pies are good. If you want the crust a little lighter, use 25% wheat flour.
And put a small piece of cold smoked salmon in the rice when you cook it, delicious.

The trick with those is to quickly fry them in butter... otherwise they're quite offensive... and I eat them with strawberry jam. (weird I know)

Wish me luck boys and girls!
Ill be going to Helsinki just for a week to meet some people, then ill be be heading down to Kotka for about a month to get myself organised, take the Hygieniaosaaminen test, get a tax number e.t.c and then after a month or 2 in Kotka, will be moving back to Helsinki with my Kotka housemates to start looking for work in Helsinki.
