is any pilates classes good for pregnant women

Post by gdaine » Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:46 am

hello all
I would like to ask some if any of you know that taking any pilates classes during early pregnancy is ok?
The person would be joining some cheap pilates yoga classes and its for everyone to join. Would stretching pilates be alrite since the person thought it wouldnt be too vigorous exercises ? We dont know much about pilates or yoga but just believe that yoga and pilates are gentler exercises and can be done when pregnant. she doesnt know any prenatal classes and also they might be too expensive to join so instead just joining some cheaper classes.
Please advise anyone.
Thankyou

I would say no as some exercises are not safe to do during pregnancy. Ideally you need to ask the teacher, some are willing to let you take the class and let you know what you shouldnt do and others wont take you at all.

Also you shouldnt start a new exercise while pregnant. Some gentle walking or swimming would be much better exercise than undertaking a new class unless it is aimed at pregnant women.

Pilates is REALLY good exercise after you have had a baby as it strengthens the core muscles :D

But, as Sara said, it depends how fit the person is. There are lots of (very) pregnant ladies at SATS doing all kinds of exercise (Core, Express etc) but I assume they know what they are doing.

thank you for your replies ladies!
It was very good information from you all but I have a few more questions:
1. Is it ok to do those stretching -pilates classes( but not specifically for pregnant women just for normal people) even if the person is only about 7 weeks pregnant? I know it might get more difficult for her to move when she is bigger!
2. At what time do pregnant women have to attend those prenatal classes and is it really necessary to join and pay for those classes? Is it ok if they dont attend those classes at all?

What's the difference between nausea due to pregnancy and due to gastritis? is there any difference? i've been feeling this nausea almost whole day and when i pressed my gastric, I didn't feel pain like what I used to feel when I had gastritis. what i meant was i haven't taken any pregnancy test yet and 3 days late...so i'd like to know if this is gastritis or due to pregnancy?

Im sorry, I dont quite follow you. I get that youre feeling sick. By gastric do you mean stomach?

The only way to tell if youre pregnant is to do a test so I suggest you pick one up today.
