Booking for vr on 6th december?
Hi, I am arriving to Finland on 6th December and I need to get a ticket to Oulu/Kemi at Helsinki train station in Rautatientori. I have no credit card so my options are to buy the ticket in the booking office, but i am not sure if they will be opened since it's a holiday... anyone knows?

vending machine is there if you can use it... if not, ride the train, when a conductor comes, say a ticket (lippu) to Kemi/Oulu. make sure you carry hard cash enough to pay the ticket..can be around 80 euroes. or buy online ticket through www.vr.fi , take a print out... and show it to conductor and of course your ID.

If i remember correctly, vending machines are ok with bank cards also but i must understand you may not have bank account in finland as of now ..... by the way sometimes... those conductors become naughty and charge you 2 euros plus extra on train..myrkyllinen wrote:.vending machines I can't use without credit card, I tried in July and it said only with cards.

You can always buy the ticket from the conductor on the train. The normal commission for onboard ticket purchases is 3 EUR on all other long haul train services except Pendolinos where it is 6 EUR (in addition to that you do not get a seat reservation aboard the train which otherwise would be included in the price). However, if the booking office at the station is closed when the train departs you do not have to pay the commission.

Thanks everyone
I decided to investigate and they told me on VR that the timetable is the same as it would be if it was a sunday
so no problems then

Re: Booking for vr on 6th december?
if you call the VR reservations number you can reserve a ticket, they give you a reference number over the phone and then you can just go to any r kioski, quote the number and pay for the ticket there - you can pay in cash. This is even better than web bookings since you can choose the seat number and get it sorted out - plus you don't pay anything in advance.

Just make sure the R-kioski is open on the 6th.riku2 wrote:and then you can just go to any r kioski, quote the number and pay for the ticket there .
