Sewing supplies
Sewing supplies
Hi all,
I'm looking for a shop that carries felt, needles, thread, pins, etc in Helsinki. Where's a good place to go?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Sewing supplies
Stockmann. Eurokangas. Sinelli (and the other handicraft shops)
Re: Sewing supplies
Tiimari.... Not sure they stock needles, thread, pins and felt though. Especially this time of year... they are mostly decked out in glitter, plastic spruce and candles. Tiimari is not really haberdashery.
BTW also a nice button and ribbons stall upstairs in Hakaniemi market hall.

and more when you visit one ...
Heck Even Biltema and Clas Ohlson have them.
Re: Sewing supplies
Sure, so do Prisma, Citymarket and even Lidl (sometimes).... but if I were looking for sewing supplies I wouldn't go there. I would go to a fabric store or a handicrafts store. Better choice, better quality.
BTW There is also a nice store on Hameentie (just up from Hakaniemi market near Taj Mehal / Maharaja ethnic food stores) that sells fantastic fat quarters for patchwork and all kinds of other textile craft supplies.

Re: Sewing supplies
The point is that THEY DO STOCK those things..and its easier for a newbee tofind a Tiimari ( Ruoholahti mall, Forum) than those specialist stores..penelope wrote:Sure, so do Prisma, Citymarket and even Lidl (sometimes).... but if I were looking for sewing supplies I wouldn't go there. and yes I do know of even higher Quality stores...( they require you to drive around 200KM from Helsinki in the town near hämeenlinna to find a very high quality store that carries very expensive needles and pins and felt ) but that was not the purpose was it?...
I just dont want to argue for the sake of arguing..
Re: Sewing supplies

I was trying to point out to the OP that there are other places too!! that you can get those stuff as they are not exotic!!
If you want Quality stuff, you can always waste your *ss in Stockmann!!
Re: Sewing supplies
Take a chill pill, raamv.
First, none of the Tiimari links you provided have anything to do with haberdashery (huopakynät?!).
Secondly, I wouldn't dream of buying any sewing supplies from Tiimari or Biltema or Clas Ohlsson. Even though I shop in all of these places for other stuff.
As others have mentioned above, Eurokangas/independent fabric shops/Stockmann/Anttila/Citymarket/Prisma, each of these should have a fair selection of most things for sewing. If I can't find what I'm looking for in one of these, I usually order it online.

Finland -> Australia -> Finland -> Canada -> Finland -> the UK -> Finland
Re: Sewing supplies
And I'd just love to know when was the last time raamv himself actually bought felt, pins, needles, thread etc from Tiimari or anywhere else (he has never mentioned a personal interest in haberdashery and embroidery before).
BTW I was in Tiimari in Iso Omena last week and in the one in Kamppi at the weekend and I didn't see any of those things! Maybe they stock the stuff at certain times of the year but not right now when all the Christmas stuff is on sale.
Whatever. I hope the OP found what she wanted (and I hope she found Stockmann OK, it so hidden away on the corner of Mannerheim and Esplanadi, I'm amazed anyone can find it) - at least she had plenty of suggestions to go through.
Re: Sewing supplies
Tiimari, Clas Ohlson, Kodin Antilla, antilla, ..make your pick!!
you ladies are the pitts.....worse than the Töölö aunties..
Just bcos I dont buy something dont mean that I dont know about it...( I have got some things for ma SO as a lahja just for the heck of it)..
and Iseult..if you are too stupid to use Google translate or a sanakirja to translate haberdashery to a felt pen.. You must truly be stupid..and I know that it must hurt really bad coming from a guy..but just accept the fact and move on..No wonder you were not able to find anything from those links..
The very fact that your screwed up perception thinks that Stockmann get their supplies from a vendor that is superior shows here very clearly..
In case you dont know, I know a lot of those wholesale vendors of clothes, ( including brand name) and of accessories.. so dont start farting out of your mouth..again and again..
As for Penelope, you can probably afford those supplies from Stockmann et al considerin your So's earnings.... but not every one else..
When I ( and a few others ) know that you can get the same siht for a cheaper price at Antilla ...why GO to Stockmann..?
The last time I bought stitching and knitting items were at LIDL when it was on sale when my SO asked for those things..so dont start underestimating people..
and no I dont stitch..It was a gift along with a sewing machine for my MIL..
I do get to have the last laugh...

Maybe you could illustrate what you mean. eg: Why don't you just scan his last pay slip and post it on here...
IIRC, you met my husband once, but I would be extremely surprised if he told you what he earns Furthermore, I fail to see the relationship between his net monthly income and what I spend my money on. I earn my own salary (more than his last month in case you are interested) and spend what I choose on sewing supplies. If I want to spend €1,50 on a packet of needles, I'll go ahead and do it without even asking my husband's consent . Maybe you can't come to terms with Nordic women earning their own cash and recklessly spending it on pins, needles and reels of cotton thread, but my thoroughly modern dh has no problem with me indulging in a little bit of haberdashery now and again. Especially if I pay for it myself.
Re: Sewing supplies
U brought up Stockmann not me ..and We all know how expensive Stockmann is ..So not everyone goes to Stockmann outside the ring..if they need to..penelope wrote:raamv wrote: As for Penelope, you can probably afford those supplies from Stockmann et al considerin your So's earnings....:

Its those RICH aristocrat people who do use Stockmann regularly..and ginven the fact that haberdashery is not a regular Finnish trait..we know what its characteristics are..
Problem is that many women cant tolerate a man knowing things about what they know..and moreover, they think that a man is stupid to think about the concerns of a woman..
and the last time I checked, I dont know any British woman all of a sudden becoming Nordic!! ( goldilockss..!!)
Re: Sewing supplies
Iseult, which shops do you order from online?
Also, if anyone knows of other specialist sewing supply stores in Helsinki, I'd be happy to hear of them. I couldn't find everything I needed at Eurokangas, but I'm going to check out the Hämeentie shop tomorrow.
Many thanks!
