Car registration( Decommissioning from traffic)

Post by bm50 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:16 pm

Hi!
Does anyone know anything about this Decommissioning from traffic? I have seen a car that I want to buy but AKE have given me information that this car has been decommissioned from traffic so is this a problem? Could it mean the car has been damaged in an accident?

Have you seen this page?
http://www.ake.fi/AKE_EN/Registration/D ... m+traffic/
Decommissioning from traffic refers to the temporary decommissioning from traffic of a vehicle registered in Finland and the entry of this data into the AKE Vehicular and Driver Data Register. No vehicle tax or mandatory road risk insurance payment is charged for a vehicle decommissioned from traffic for the period decommissioning. Only returning licence plates will cut off all insurances connected to the vehicle. It is worth checking with the insurance company which parts of the voluntary insurance will stay in force, it the plates are not returned.
People might get the car decommissed because they don't need the car and do not want to pay insurance + car tax. It costs only 10,2 IIRC. Of course, there could be other reasons, as well.

Its the old "out of insurance" a.k.a "on stilts" thing. Bad part is you cannot take it on a test drive before the registration is back on.

I decomission my car each winter as it is not driven until snow is gone from the roads.

Logging in to Trafi.fi will allow you to commission or decommission your vehicle so you save money in the months you do not drive it on the road. It is a lifeline for me.

Good luck.
