Cost of electricity in Helsinki

Post by Oombongo » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:09 am

Hello,
So what is the cost of electricity (Kw/hr) in Helsinki for residential apartments? I am asking because the biggest electric sucker in my apartment is my computer so I wonder how much it is going to cost me.

contract..then it depends on what "paketti" you asked for in the contract..
Tarkka is the market price is is way cheaper than paketti price..but then dunno if it offered to you..
It requires you to send in your usage monthly..but then its way cheaper than the ridiculous paketti hinta!!

Being on this subject, I would also like to know, what it costs in Finland, an APPROXIMATE cost, for 2 persons household, with normal usage for cooking, tv, househeating ? I have no idea, as have not lived here for years and years.
And where can one look for these "packages", I understant there are several companies offering deals >
When do the bills come, every month, every year or what ?
Is the water heated by electiricty or natural gas or petrol ?
Any advice is useful !

I really don't know what kind of package or tariff I have but when I came to Finland next day I went to Helsingin Energia and the officer asked me what kind of electric appliances I have at home. That's it. For 2 persons household my latest 3-months bill is 80 euro... Heating and hot water is nothing to do with electricity, in my case they are included in the rent.

Dunno about normal.. depends so much about things, mainly are we talking about house or apartment? If apartment we are talking about 2500kWh+ and if electrically heated house, it could be 20000kWh.
You can get offers for your electricity from http://www.vaihtovirta.fi or directly from electric companies. Remember that you can choose where you buy your electricity, but not delivery company. My gut feeling is that in your case your electric bill will be about half from electricity and half from transfer.
Our bill comes 3 (or was it 4) times a year.
Water heating depends how the house is heated. District heating, electricity and oil are probably most common methods of heating (both house and water).
