Well this is it. After living in Finland for about 1 year and a half, I passed the advance YKI test level in November and I have been applying to med school and got invited to the entrance exam. There is a 631 page brick to read: Galenos.
I was wondering, anyone else on Finland Forum applying to med school? If so, to which one ?
What do you all think about the entrance examination book?

Dunno, but I'd warmly suggest taking one of those prep courses. Was it Lääkis or Oikis you take on average 3 or 4 times the entrance tests to get in, they're the most difficult departments to get in, and the prep courses are for you to learn how to "answer how they want"... its again the old thing that you want and that want and its nothing to do what you think. I read the oikis materials back in the day and decided learning crap by heart wasn't my idea of studying.

p.s. were you somehow exposed to finnish language before you moved here?
Re: Going to med school? Lääkikseen?
Thanks for the tip about the prep courses! I checked a bit about it, some people say it helps, some not. It seems kinda controversial!
As far as learning the language, I have been taking language courses in Rovaniemi at Rovala. The course on its own was really slow, so I had to buy books from suomalainen kirjakauppa. I got finnish for foreigners 1 and then later on I got suomen kielen tikapuut. Then I tried to assimilate what I learned from those books to the class.
It IS possible. I mean, I dont talk finnish with my wife at home, just with her family because they don't speak english. So I unfortunately don't get a chance to practice everyday, or rather, I don't take it.
Has anyone been taking the test in med school so far?

Re: Going to med school? Lääkikseen?
gosh, I thought I had a lot to read for the bachelor's degree program... 2 PDF files of 50 pages each and 2 other articles. approx 100-110 pages. It's much more dense than last year's jargon. that's nothing compared to your brick though. ehh.
I'm not sure how the med exams are set up, or what your study habits are like.
My best advice is to break down the information in that 631p brick to something shorter.
copy & paste the factual information into a microsoft word program, then print it.
make amrginal notes and underline. it will help a bit.
questions on the exam I took were directly from the reading material, but that was for International business.

Congratulations!!!!! Paljon onnea!!!!!
I'm going to Finland this autumn to start a master's degree in Public Health at UTA.
My plan is when I'm fluent enought in Finnish, apply for med school after the master's degree (by the way, i'm a bachelor in biological sciences, but always wanted to get into med school).
