Students in Tampere

Post by Noige » Tue Jun 09, 2009 5:12 pm

Hei everybody,
as I will start my studies this August in Tampere, I would like to know if there are others here who are also studying in Tampere and who would like to meet up with a 20-year-old German girl :) I will be studying Environmental Engineering at TAMK. So if anyone is interested, just contact me here or via mail or so :)
Greetings, Ines

That's cool. I guess we'll see then. When are you coming to Tampere? I will move there at the beginning of August. Where are you actually from?

I actually decided not to try my luck with TOAS, as they said that everyone is trying it and that they don't have enough flats/rooms for all applicants. I have rented my own little flat now (I just signed the contract today. Yippie!). And I really really like it! :D
I remember being to Poland once a couple of years ago in a summer camp. But unfortunately I don't speak any Polish at all...

It's not so bad with TOAS as long as you apply fast enough :) Obviously it's hardest to get an apartament in Kaleva, closest to school but with other areas it's fine. Im 26th in line and it drops usually 1 position per day, that's why i hope it should be possible to move in August :D I have visited Germany, i studied german at school but still i don't speak it at all :ohno: Currently my finnish is better than my german, but as long as everyone speak english it doesn't matter :D

Hmmm... but it would have become a bit difficult for me to move and everything as I'm out of the country during the whole July and I would have had no place to stay while waiting when I come back to Finland... so it's okay the way everything worked out for me now :)
For me it's the same with French. I learnt it at school for four years but now I can only say "My name is" "I live in" etc... My Finnish is way better!
But if you want to train your German some time or the other you can turn to me. I can help you with this :)
But anyway... Do you have Facebook or something like this?

Cheers I just randomly googled TAMK and found this forum

pikkupeikkomyy, I think we are going to be classmates.. I got accepted to TAMK int.business too! It's so exciting to get to know other people who got admitted, especially people from abroad because I am a native Finn :) So you're from Poland? I've visited Krakow and Warsaw.. and Noige, been to Berlin and Dresden too :D Can't speak neither of the languages, though.

I got an apartment via TOAS almost immediately I applied for it.. I was in line less than a week  I guess I was a lucky bastard! It's called Pellavapää, built in 2002 and located in central Tampere near Näsijärvi lake! So yeah, it might have been wiser to get an apartment somewhere near Kaleva but I really wanted a central location..

Less than a week whooh! But anyway i wouldn't like have an apartment so early. Don't want to pay rent during summer, im staying with my mother in law :)
If you got accepted to int. business too it's kinda sure that we will be class mates :D Do you have facebook for example? Maybe better if we don't change this forum into chat room  It's so exciting, getting know people you're gonna study with :ochesey: First day will be so much nicer :)
Check your privat message :D :star:

Hey ;)
I´m Helena, from Brazil (but a spanish citizen). I'm also going to start my master degree in Tampere this autumn.
However, I did not have any luck at all with TOAS.
I made the deposit payment very early, in May, as soon as I received my acceptance letter, and I requested my own flat.
Then, they put me in a shared apartment, and I said no because my main priority was my own flat, no matter how far from the school. Then I requested them again, and they put me in a building with my own room (8m2), but shared WC and kitchens, and at the most expensive spot. Is that normal???
I would be sooo happy with my own flat :(
By the way, I will be studying at the faculty of Medicine of UTA (Master's degree in Public Health).

'Yes, that is normal. That is how student housing normally is. Bathroom and kitchen are the most expensive parts of a flat. It would be impossible to build the same amount of student housing if every one had his/her own kitchen and bathroom. If you want your own, you have to seach from the private market.

Well, queues for own apartments used to be like two years.. Normally a student starts in a shared flat with an own room and shared kithcen and bathroom, and continues queuing to single apartments. The most popular ones can have four year queues. Not very wise to turn down the first apartment, if you don't have any backup plan. Although, they are renovating those shared flats to single apartments little by little, so it could be possible to get one to start with nowadays.

hey!
here a Spanish student that didn't make the TOAS reservation, that's because I asked for studios and they told me what you said, more than one year queue. I did the Opintanner application but I get no lucky. I also contacted several studios for rent... but nothing. I'm so desperately because I have a dog and I have to take him with me. It's a problem... but I didn't give up yet...
It's just one month last, I'm coming late August. If you guys know anything I will be glad to know.

Oh.. I'll be studying Architecture at TUT ( TTY ). I didn't find any other architect erasmus.
I'm 21 and in September will be 22.. and I hope I'll have a apartment.

Housing is hard!

:)

Hey all,

From the US here. I will be studying in Tampere starting this Autumn if the immigration service approves my request for a residency permit (fingers crossed). I will be in the UTA Master's Program for Russian Language & Culture, and I landed a room at the student dorm on Tuomiokirkonkatu. Looking forward to it!
