temporary ID or passeport for French persons

Post by Lisa 15 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 2:23 pm

Hi!
I know it's not the best place to ask about that subject, but I'm just upset about a stupide situation. My mum was supposed to come to Finland today, and at the airport, in Paris, they noticed that her ID was old, so she couldn't board in. Normal. Now the thing is that she was supposed to come to help us as I am 9 months pregnant and we have no relative to take care of our oldest kids. Does anyone of you know of any procedure she could use to get a temporary ID or passeport? I would know how to do it if she were abroad going back to France, but not when she's still in France...
Any tips more than welcome!

(I revert my post as I did not apparently properly read the headline... Bit strange place to ask questions about French ID papers for French nationals, but anyway good that you have your problem solved (I guess by now somebody of your family is checking through express mail or courier services))

By the way...

...there is a French forum called http://www.salutfinlande.net where you can also ask questions. There maybe someone on that forum who has been in the same situation as you.

...there is an association called the Mannerheim League that provides help for families eg: temporary childcare, if a parent is sick or has to travel etc They have a great reputation. http://www.mll.fi/in_english/

Thanks Penelope: I know the MLL but everytime I contacted them, they couldn't provide any help in Kirkkonummi. As my kids don't speak finnish but swedish, it makes it a bit more challenging :) as for sudfinland, I visit it sometimes, it is not very active... ranska was more efficient :)

So you can't get a "quick passport" at the airport in France like in Finland?

she could get a passeport d’urgence which is valid for just one year but:
Pour bénéficier de cette délivrance exceptionnelle, il faut être en mesure de justifier d'un déplacement urgent, notamment pour des raisons familiales graves (maladie grave ou décès d'un membre de la famille) ou des raisons professionnelles particulières.

Having a baby comes with quite some advance notice so I wonder if she'll convince them she qualifies.

What about driving up? ID would only need to be shown on the ferry from sweden and that's not really an immigration check so even a driving licence might do.
