Microsoft Word Finnish Grammar Checking
Microsoft Word Finnish Grammar Checking
Is anyone using Microsoft Word XP with Finnish grammar checking (Language Proofing Tools)?. From a language learning perspective, how is it? Is it a good tool to use for learning the language?
I used to use Finnish spell checking in Word, which was half the battle. I found spell checking alone very useful. I don't have the grammar checking version.
Cheers,

Speaking as one who uses the English Grammar tools on a regular basis, I would suggest that unless your Finnish is of a very high, almost native, level, then grammar checking will lead you astray more than help. The secret is in interpretation of the output and unless your Finnish grammar is already very good then you will mislead yourself.
The English grammar tool is good at picking up anomalies, but less good at identifying the correct solution, that you need to do for yourself and thereby hangs the rub. If you can't solve the problem yourself the tool is of little help. If you can solve the problem, you do not need the tool...
I use it as part of the editing process to help identify issues, it saves a LOT of time, but as a learning tool, I think not.
Of course all the preceding was in relation to the English tools, but possibly the Finish tools are different and much better; but I doubt t!

Incorrect! The Microsoft Office XP Proofing Tools was released in April 2001 and supports Finnish. The grammar checker was not developed by Microsoft though. It was developed by a Finnish company, Lingsoft.Tom and Jerry wrote:There is no grammar check on word for Finnish, at least not two years ago.
