He was a great chef, with myself cooking up many of his great food

Floyd in France was a great book, have been using mine for years. Watched all his programmes when I still lived at home.
And probably the first real TV chef, a great entertainer.
A terrible business man.

I guess he died of liver chirrosis? What a shame, he was my favorite tv-chef; especially the *places* he went to cook in...
better one still he was doing in a crammed train kitchen... I wonder how the cameraman fit in there...

Just 'acquired' this, then flicked to the BBC and saw the news. Shame, a great man even though i don't have much of an interest in cooking i always liked seeing him on tv.
Keith Meets Keith
Monday, 14th September 2009
10pm to 11:10pm
Channel4
Keith Floyd disappeared off the media radar a few years ago after he collapsed in a Midlands pub. Actor and documentary-maker Keith Allen was hugely influenced by Floyd's anarchic presentational style, and is determined to track down his long-time hero. He finally locates him in rural France.
This documentary is the record of their meeting in and around Avignon. Both known for their wild lifestyles, it's unsurprising that the two Keiths immediately hit it off. The result is a compelling profile of Floyd's life, as well as his musings on the current TV chefs, the mendacity of television, the state of modern Britain, and the human condition.
A funny, thought-provoking and moving encounter between the man who 'deconstructed television' years before the phrase became fashionable among the media-savvy, and a protégé who has continued that tradition. The two men are seldom at a loss for words until a surprise appearance by Floyd's daughter, whom he hasn't seen for 10 years.

Yeah, I quite liked him, too. My kind of cook: splashy, messy, ad lib, drinks on the job.
But I can't stomach celebrity-chef programmes. Like celebrity anything television, it's got most of the population watching "famous people doing stuff" instead of doing it themselves.
What kind of a bloody Zeitgeist is that?
R.I.P. anyway - sounds as though he'd had a good belt before he went. Hope it was a decent year.

His last meal was (according to the BBC) oysters then partridge and champagne

Very sad when I heard the news, he meant much more to me than a thousand Jackos.
A great man, unique talent delivered in a unique style. His family should be very proud that he influenced so many, so deeply.

...but there's certainly some of that going on with this here celebrity chef. Put a false moustache on Floyd and he's not too dissimilar from this guy's messy antics - bowtie and all.littlefrank wrote:but police do not suspect fowl play.raamv wrote:rip..

RIP Mr Floyd! "In brief - it's absolute rubbish..."
