Does anyone knows if Arcada in Helsinki is a private school or not?

Hi,

the administration of the Finnish Universities of Applied Science (=polytechnics in Ministry of Education-speak) is arranged in a slightly different manner from that of the 'traditional' academic universities. The administration system of the UAS may vary slightly from one institution to another -

The universities of applied sciences are maintained by a local authority, a municipal consortium, an organisation or a foundation

- it says here.

Arcada is run by the Arcada Foundation, which is -if I'm not wrong- a "privately-owned foundation" (?)

Note that the Ministry won't use the name "UAS / University of Applied Science", but "Polytechnic". But these terms do refer to the same institutions. Why this is so... is another story

I don't think it's private.. But I know, that it is swedish..

Just for the record - Arcada is definitely not Swedish but Finnish. However the language of instruction is Swedish.

The difference may seem obvious, but I have met people who seriously thought Hanken was an offshore campus of some Swedish university
