Cutting down X-mas trees
Cutting down X-mas trees
I've read the past discussions from many years before about obtaining Christmas trees, but I would like to revisit the topic.
My family has had a long standing tradition of driving to upstate NY to a small tree farm where we would spend the afternoon hiking around to find the perfect tree and cut it down. I would like to continue this tradition here if possible. I am aware that I can't go into the forest and cut one down and I don't want to. So is there any tree farms that let you do this?
Thanks.
Willing to go within a 3hr drive of Helsinki, BTW

Not heard of such, but I have a few lopsided ones I'm too lazy to cut down

iirc, it is allowed to cut a tree that has grown back in the area that has been cleared under power lines.
Perhaps a Finn could confirm this?

Most of these are rarely very fitting for use as christmas tree as they often are cleared at rate which does not permit growth to reasonable height and commonly tend to grow in thick bushes, and I definitely would not go cut trees ANYWHERE without definite acceptance of land owner.Richard wrote:iirc, it is allowed to cut a tree that has grown back in the area that has been cleared under power lines.

Trees under power lines are still owned by someone so just taking tree from there is stealing.

onkko, thank you very much! That was exactly what I was looking for. The first link in Hamina seems perfect for our needs. Thanks again!

Any other are welcome to my plantation as long as they obey which tree to cut.
They *are* lopsided - perfect for corners or MIL's

Yeah, well if you get caught you get fined after some ancient laws... and you can forfeit your axe & saw as well as your car to the state.
