Hey Penelope,
Sounds good :). I also want to fit in a trip to the pyramids. Just wondering though, how did you book the cairo tour, was it online or did you book when you were there? I'm still wondering where the unspecified accomodation is located (in the travel packages) like if I can get around anywhere, i guess with bus or taxi but i want to see the beach and hopefully snorkel if im going to sharm el sheikh.

Wow gee 54 finns on camels! That's alot of finns and camels :OO
I hardly see 54 finns in my neighbourhood in winter, they must all be on holiday ;)

Do you remember where you bookd the camel trip?

Ps I feel like i need to ask now, whats the best travel insurance to get :D for a week, if im going to be riding camels :O

Bubba: yea if there was gold there would have been taken long ago :P theres not even any mummies in the tunnels :P. maybe if u mistep u can find a secret corridor and go from there :P

Sounds like Penelope bought the camel tour from the Finnish travel agent whose trip the whole trip was. But there are also small local travel agencies in town (at least in Dahab, Sharm is way bigger, so expect also more travel agents) that sell all kinds of trips, camel rides and snorkeling and Cairo and Petra included.

It is impossible to say anything about the hotel. But even if it would be a little further from the beach, taxis are cheap.

I guess the "unspecified" accomodation just means they dump you in a hotel that has rooms available during the week you booked. eg: maybe they had cancellations? So it's a gamble but you might be lucky.

Sharm el Sheikh has hotels on the coast stretching from the airport (we were very close to the airport but honestly we really didn't notice the planes at all) and then hotels in the town centre which has an old quarter (where the locals live) and a newer (tacky-ish and very touristy) bit where there are some malls and more hotels. It is quite easy to walk around in the town centre but if you are in the hotels along the coast you would need to use a taxi (cheap) or hotel courtesy mini-bus.

We booked all our excursions at the hotel through the Finnish tour operator. But like EP says, you can book excursions in the town centre. There is a paved "promenade" along the edge of the beach where there are a lot of new, luxury hotels and snorkelling and glass-boat tours are advertised along there. If you get an up-to-date guide book I'm sure you'll find all the possibilities listed with the prices.
