Seeking job in Oulu

Post by littleChe90 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 8:19 pm

Hi everyone,

Anyone knows about any job available in Oulu? I'm an italian boy, I'm 19 years old, and I'll soon come to Finland. I'm looking for a job. Anything that can be done. I can speak quite well English and also a little Finnish.

I'm graduated in Technical High School as IT expert (that's the word in English?!?)

How do I find a job when I'm there?

Thank you,
Luca

If you don't know what an "IT technician" is in English... OK - Basics in finding a job - same all over, look at Italy, imagine I come there and I speak only... Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsi and a little English, not so much Italian. Where do I go find a job, and what kind? So I do some specialist stuff in IT, and have to fit into a niche. Now the question you need to ask is if there are this kind of niche jobs? And would it be only in Oulu?

Well... there isn't an English word for what I mean actually, the only thing I could think at was expert, though I'm not pretty sure of it. I'm niether an engineer nor a dumb, it's something in between.

Let's say I'm a web/Java developer. Does it fit better?

EDIT:

That's the word, technician. Thank you! I can speak English anyway, and also a little Finnish, because I've been a vaihto-oppilas two years ago

OK, "java developer" rings a bell. Have you looked in Monster & MOL websites? If you search for say J2EE or some other magic words... Problem is, the development is gone to India and China, the sales is here... Oulu has some, but there is very tough competition. Of course the hot blonde explained this all to you, eh?

I've looked in Monster, but not in MOL. I took a look and actually I found something. I've applied for some few jobs, hopefully I'll get one of those.
Thank you Pursuivant :D

Don't get your hopes too high: if (decent) job is on the mol website, the number of applicants is probably in the double, even triple, digits.

that gives you a bit of an edge... but really the job/economy situation is a bit "wobbly" at the moment. but I do see adverts pop up for developers, though I am wondering if they're just collecting names for tenders or actually have jobs...

mmm, I know a little about the Italian system. If you are 19 and already out of school, I am guessing you went to the "middle" technical school, or did you do the "high" one? The thing is, in Finland it is just a secondary school, not University, I am familiar with these terms which are given out in central europe (counting Italy as central europe for the purposes of this forum), so check are you technician or expert? Either way, you need to know what the Bologna equivalent is. As most Finns competing for IT jobs will have a masters in IT, you might find it a bit difficult to compete.

Of course I know I'll have a bit diffculty, but actually I'm looking for any job. I don't care what job. Actually If I manage I'd love to attend Oulu's university so that it'll be a little easier maybe.

Anyway I'm just a technician. I guess the school I attended to was an High School
