Resonate Electric Vehicles

Post by Ian » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:49 pm

Hi

Its been quite a while since I posted on this forum, but I thought it was about time to dip my toe back in. A little over a year ago, I was made redundant from the telecoms industry here in Oulu. Since then, I have gone on to start my own company.

I decided to start a company importing electric scooters from China. We've now been going almost a year, and although things have been really tough over the winter, we are now looking ahead to the summer and hopefully a degree of success!

More information from can be found at www.resonate.fi the site will be getting an overhaul in the next few weeks where we will be adding more content and information.

Cheers

Ian

All the best with that! This winter has been particularly harsh, but I'm sure once the weather turns, things'll pick up.

Why is it that people always advertise their sites which "will be getting an overhaul in the next few weeks where we will be adding more content and information"? Why is it always so difficult to wait a few weeks and then present a much more professional image of yourself and your company by linking to a site which is complete and ready for customers to see, and not lacking in content and information? This has always bewildered me.

Ah come on, the site isn't that bad at the moment.

Good luck with this Ian. I think there could be a fair bit of interest, a heck of a lot of school kids seem to have their own scooter. They do make a bit of a din, and I'd love that they got something a bit quieter :) Of course it depends on the price point, scooters seem to be available very cheaply and from commodity shops like supermarkets even. Have you spoken to Citymarket or Prisma if they are interested in taking a trial batch?

BTW, what range do they have, and how long does it take to recharge them?

Do you already have dealers in the south? Season is slightly longer here and of course, more customers. Might be a nice side project for me if you're looking for distributers :)

Web site says 40 to 50 km and 6 to 8 hours. That seems quite poor to me - not staggeringly better than the claims for the Sinclair C5 and we all know what happened to that. I would have expected more progress in 25 years.

The range varies on real world factors, such as rider weight, terrain and the way you ride, but we get on average around 40km per charge, but we are getting new models which have 50-70km per charge and we are also getting upgraded versions of the existing ones with Lithium batteries which will be able to do around 80km. So a bit of progress there!!

Having used them myself last year, I would say that around towns, the current range has been fine. Although the extra range is going to be make them much more attractive. All this new info will be in the new site when it gets updated. Prices are also competitive with with the mid price scooters on the market ranging from €1500-2000 for the regular bikes, and a bit more for the lithium ones. Couple that with very lo running costs - €0.25 per 100km

Paul if you're serious about looking to re sell, contact me and lets talk.

I guess the range is fine for the kids who only zoom to school and back (handful of kms) per day, and this might appeal to the "eco" sensibilities of many, too.
Ian, I'll drop you a line over the weekend for a chat.

No, it's not - it just sparked off a rant because I see so many people, regardless of how good or bad, posting a link and saying "I'll be renewing it the day after tomorrow". Why do people do that? Why not just wait a few days until the renewal has come, and then just post the link without all the verbiage around it? I see it so often, and if it's really coming so soon, then I don't understand what the hurry is to post the link *now* with the caveat that it'll be changed Any Day Now. It just seems silly and makes people look unprofessional. But to the OP - good luck with it, it seems like an interesting line of business and I genuinely wish you all the best for it.

But how much is the pink Janus model, is that something like 1.5k€?

My daughter will need a moped in 6 months and this might be a solution... she wants a pink Vespa at the moment

Current price is €1495. I've still got one pink Janus left in stock, so if you're interested, then let me know.

We're getting slightly higher spec ones for the summer which will be a little more expensive at €1800 for a Janus with a 2kW motor. It will be capable of doing around 60km per charge as well.

You wouldn't happen to need a summer worker who is majoring in environmental engineering, would you? :D :D :D
I speak okay Spanish, okay Finnish, and excellent English. Also, I make exceptionally strong coffee.

Whats the score with the batteries? are they like laptops ones which after a month or 2 stop holding the charge as well and seriously decrease in performance. How much are replacement batteries?

Laptop batteries last a long time if you treat them properly

Just a quick update.

We now have a new batch of scooters arriving next week, so if you're thinking about getting a scooter for the summer, why not think about going electric?

We now have the possibility to test ride one of our bikes every Sunday evening 7pm at the compass in Kaivopuisto.

For more details and specs check out the (now updated) website www.resonate.fi

Cheers
