Getting married in Finland

Post by fairy » Thu Apr 08, 2010 6:51 pm

Hi,
I am moving to Finland in October and getting married Summer 2011. My fiance is Finnish and I'm English.

I wondered if anyone had done something similar and if it was easy enough to work out!

Firstly congratulations on your engagement :ochesey:

I wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult, your fiance should know how to go about it.

Out of interest - how long did it take him to ask? slow, slower or slower still?

I have seen that website before (sorry I didn't reply earlier - must have missed the post). It seems the logistics of it are quite simple once I have the relevant paperwork. And I have plenty of time to sort that out.

Now I just have to decide on a venue etc etc etc :P The list goes on! I wanted to get married on Suomenlinna (I hope I spelt it correctly) but it's so expensive and the room is already booked on my date next year! *Sulk* Oh well, onwards we go!

Oh and he asked of his own free will :P And quite quickly to be honest :) He's not afraidy pants!

Do any of his family have a summer cottage? Perhaps you could have the reception there, it would save a bit of money but of course you would have to have the ceremony somewhere nearby. A lot of planning for you.

@ Ajl - no reason why not, just me being a bit of a traditionalist........ :-)

We thought about that but we don't really know anybody with something like that. There is like a local hall though, which seems quite nice, so we may rent that. It's not too expensive either. Going to visit it soon! :D
