Swimming Pools
Swimming Pools
Is it possible to swim in indoor pools during July in Helsinki or Espoo and, if so, is it possible to buy a weekly or monthly ticket? Does anyone know if hotels offer off-peak short-term membership? Any information on pools that will be open would be appreciated.

This is for Espoo:
"Uimahallien kesäsulkemiset: Leppävaaran uimahalli 5.7.- 15.8.,Tapiolan uimahalli 7.6.- 20.7., Espoonlahden uimahalli 8.7.-18.8. ja Keski-Espoon uimahalli 7.6.- 4.7. "
Those are the times when they are closed.

Hi!
This is for Helsinki:

Vuosaari indoor pool is open all summer. It's easy to reach by Metro.
Uimastadion pool is outdoors and but it's heated - a nice place to visit.

This is quite funny.Isn't the summer the time when people would want to go swimming? or in finnish logic should citizens be on their summer holiday and off at their summer cottage swimming in a cool lake?EP wrote:"Uimahallien kesäsulkemiset: Leppävaaran uimahalli 5.7.- 15.8.,Tapiolan uimahalli 7.6.- 20.7., Espoonlahden uimahalli 8.7.-18.8. ja Keski-Espoon uimahalli 7.6.- 4.7. Reminds me of the cycle shop in hyvinkaa that closes all of july until the middle of august .. a bit like toy shops shutting for the month before christmas.

Hi!
Yes, in summer people in Finland love to go swimming - outside! Therefore we open a great number places called "uimaranta" and even some called "maauimala".
- Indoor swimming pools need yearly maintenance and repair - middle of the summer is a great time for that - better than closing down in wintertime when there are less alternatives available.

Re: Swimming Pools
Why would people want to go swimming indoors during the summers anymore then they do in the other seasons? There's also less people in town, and many go swimming outdoors.riku2 wrote: This is quite funny.Isn't the summer the time when people would want to go swimming? or in finnish logic should citizens be on their summer holiday and off at their summer cottage swimming in a cool lake?
To the OP: you can buy a monthly ticket to these outdoor pools in Hki. Beware, they are quite crowded.
