Depends. What do you hack? Hardware, software, or attitudes?

But seriously, shouldn't this post be in the "Jobs and Entrepreneurship" forum?

I should have registered much earlier. The follow-up email seems a very good idea, I was thinking about something similar, but I didn't want to annoy.

And a question: many suggest, that in the cover letter you should indicate that you will make a phone call (to set up an appointment). Is it a good idea? I didn't dare to do it...
I mean if phone calls freak out Finnish people, but even some Finnish cover letter "how-to" sites suggest that phone call.

So the follow ups are a good idea, but when? I mean what is the best timing for application/follow-up/another follow-up?

Sending the application just before the expiration time can put my app on top. But sending at the beginning shows that I'm really interested in the company. Okay, follow-ups solve this, but when to send the follow up? Just before the end of searching time? Do companies fill a position before that time (so I'm applying to an already filled position)? How usual is that in Finland?

Maybe all of these information are already mentioned, sorry if I overlooked them.

Follow-ups are very good. They show employers that you're committed, motivated and proactive, able to think by yourself, show initiative and get things done. If you just send out stuff and then stop and wait for somebody to offer you a job, you'll never get one. If nothing else, it keeps you active in their memory - think how many CVs they must get regularly. Hiding does nobody any good.

Go away, spambot. It's a shame we want to learn Finnish, although I daresay some could benefit from structural and grammar lessons in English - such as the spammer advertising English lessons ;)

Sorry. I had never seen spam before today, so I didn't know what to do and panicked. On a serious note, I was just bored. Sorry :)

How is the opprtnity in Graphics Design/DTP field??

Post by asad » Wed Dec 22, 2010 10:36 am

Hello all,
I am thinking to go in Finland as a MBA student in a tuition based study in early of 2011. Its a professional course and class only in weekend; full time working possibility. I have been working in Graphics design field for than 9 years with Danish company in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Please is there any one who are working or know better about Graphics? Could you say how is the opportunity in Finland as a Graphics Designer? I have no formal education in Graphics expect local company diploma....but I consider myself as an expert in this area. And have much better confident working with foreigner.
will it be easy to get a job there?

As i said I am going in a tuition based MBA programme where 9500 euro have to pay in three installment in two years, will it be worthy to go there by paying tuition fees? I am planning to to go there on a tuition based programme than switch to tuition free study. is it possible? and another thing is, is there in Helsinki any college or university where I can get admission on Graphics or get a short course?

Please suggest me or give me worthy link for finding information..........you can advice me what I should do.

last think, I am working in Danish IT outsourcing company in Dhaka with good payment as a Graphic designer
Thanks

First, do you already have a residence permit for Finland? What is your nationality?

For part time studies you cannot get a residence permit, so if you're not EU you must either have a job in Finland or be married to a Finn.
I have no formal education in Graphics expect local company diploma
Finland values degrees very highly. Without a formal degree your chances are close to zero.
(your application will be put aside at first reading, no chance to show your skills in an interview)
will it be easy to get a job there?
No. Foreigner, no Finnish language skills, no formal degree will all work against you.
how is the opportunity in Finland as a Graphics Designer?
Not very good.

Don't pay anything before you're sure you can get a residence permit.

Don't throw away a good position for an uncertain future.
