Pele's FIFA 100 list

Post by corellianc » Fri Mar 05, 2004 2:45 pm

There's nothing like a list of the greatest players to get people excited!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3533833.stm

As usual it's the omissions that stand out more but one inclusion that strikes me as strange is El Hadji Diouf.

Is he better than any of the following that were left out: Denis Law, Jimmy Greaves, Goeff Hurst, Ryan Giggs or Liam Brady?

It certainly hasn't done him any favours with his 1970 team mates though:
Gerson appeared on Brazilian television last night and tore up the list in a flamboyant display of outrage at the slur.
No room for Ireland's "Zinedine Kilbane " either.

:D

EHD: The Birkenhead Chicken? He's brilliant! :D

I figure it's more Blatter's list than Pele's... I bet he regrets getting involved now.

Also amazing the way Shearer and Lineker are on there but there's no room for Barnes, Hoddle, Gascoigne...

I've been wondering what definition they use for "great". Does it mean great player or great for selling the picture book that will accompany it?
