Pulkka is old word and fast googling tells that Antti Matinpoika Pulkkanen, (Taulusta 7) , s. n.1673 Sortavala Soukanranta, k. 8.4.1743 Sortavala Soukanranta. Vanhemmat Matti Pulkkanen, s. Sortavala so we can assume his father Matti Pulkkanen was born about 1650s so its old surname too.

Ok! So It seems to me that PULKKA had different look. Now it's plastic :) And maybe it came from saami language... :wink:
