First child is a child, not "young adult". Also how you can tell that you make child happy? Smart is mainly genetics so you cant change it. Open-minded as idiot who cant notice threat? And whats that new buzzword "proactive", what does it mean?HappyLearners wrote: if you need your child to be a happy, educated, smart, curious, open-minded and proactive young adult.
Child is by definition and reality curious withouth your help and educated? compared to what?

It is true onkko, children are curious but by the time they will grow they will loose that curiosity...and the future young adults I was talking about will be people who just take everything for granted and don't use their minds to check what they get. I am happy you wrote about these things...it shows you are not just an info sponge...but a 'brain in use'; so we need to help children to discover things that they are good at and improve themselves... I don't think we are born smart or stupid...remember some of the most intelligent people in the world were considered in their class as the worst students or they didn't attended school cause of lack of money/family support. A child needs an example to follow not a preacher...

well if you like distorting people's posts it's your own business... the attitude shown in your posts on this website doesn't really help people to make an idea about any topic discussed here! you just don't have anything else to do than misinterpreting what people say and prove your are a smart guy! it's true we are ignorants and we pay taxes so that smart people like you can stay at home, get their Kela benefit, drink the whole day and waste time posting comments on forums...this forum is for people eager to exchange information, not for people that just want to show how smart they are by judging others like you do! I am sure you don't have any kids because a real parents is concerned with his child(ren)'s well being while you are concerned with totally different things. This is my last reply cause I have better things to do... so if any parent wants any kind of information about my qualification, educational philosophy or reference, please contact me personally.

Isn't the distance between Espoo and Kemijärvi enough?onkko wrote:Thats enough to me to keep my childrens as far away from you as possible, you are ignorant.HappyLearners wrote:I don't think we are born smart or stupid...

Onkko, you're a nice guy but if you are going to call someone ignorant you may want to check your facts:
Are you talking about IQ? Because yes, you can raise it.Smart is mainly genetics so you cant change it.
But IQ is only responsible for about 20% of your results in life (it may be more in a country like Finland, though.) Emotional intelligence can be as much important and yes, you can grow it, too. And you can be very smart but without a proper mindset you may never fly very high... Of course, being smart may also mean to live happily with the hand you've been dealt. While studies suggest that genetics play a role (experts say 50%) you can also learn how to increase your "baseline" happiness.
<rant>
I take it that the issue is with the tone of advertisement but it pisses me off to see cr@p like "genetic destiny" or "being realistic" around so much (and I don't mean Onkko, here.) If one needs an excuse not to get up and exercise, aim higher in life or enjoy your time that's perfectly fine, it's his/her life and as bellow says The only thing that’s Capital-T True is that you get to decide how you see things. ... But if you need to shut down other peoples dreams and hopes in order to keep consistency in your world view than f- you you selfish moron;)

First link "The study does not address the long-standing debate among psychologists over whether IQ can be raised, "
Second link, that was shot down by other professionals.
3rd link, encouraging kid is always important, i wouldnt ever tell child that he cant do something or cant achieve something but still this comes from home and kindergarden has to do that by norm so i dont see how its selling point.
4th link, most happiest one i know is mentally retarded and most unhappy is professor. Happiness doesnt equal smartness.
My point was that if they claim they can make someone "smart" then there has to be something else than just claim, prove it.
Intelligence, or smartness, is highly inherited. It can be shunned down by malnutrition or similar but you cant actually make someone smart more than make one good runner or musician. Only think you can do is encourage kid to play with hand he got in birth and do best he can with it.

where molecular biologist and neuroscientist talk about nature vs nurture. Its 50-50. Inheritance is just 50% and how your nurture a child is the rest 50%, be it intelligence or smartness or whatever you name it.
Re: Family Day Care - Espoo (all parents are welcome)
I would rather see links to studies available online than books. According to current knowledge you can "boost" intelligence in youth but it comes back to predicted when older. It has been proven by twin studies and long term studies. I never said that intelligence cannot be damaged but i said that day care cant boost it, atleast i want to see proofs. Of course if your home is !"#¤% and you dont get enough food or normal care then yes, daycare can do that but in normal situation it cant do anythinh. I want some flesh for that claim.arvi wrote:onkko, please refer some books likeonkko wrote:Thats enough to me to keep my childrens as far away from you as possible, you are ignorant.HappyLearners wrote:I don't think we are born smart or stupid...
