can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
Hello forumites,
I have been residing in finland continously on a continous A permit for close to 3 years,I got my first A resident permit, in July 2009,and it was extended for 4 more years in 2010.
I will like to ask,can I apply for permenant resident permit now, since i have resided here for more than 2 years on the same permit? or do i have to wait until 4 years.
I am a bit confused because I was reading on migri.fi, that my A permit must still be valid when am applying for permanent residence permit, but it was not stated for how long,is my permit still need to be valid before applying.
thanks

Re: can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
No you can't apply now. The earliest you can apply is June 2013.
Re: can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
Why on earth would you want to apply so early for another one anyway?

OP is asking about permanent RP. Please read the post carefully before actually replying.Kutittaa wrote:Why on earth would you want to apply so early for another one anyway?
To OP: You can only apply P (or P-EY) RP after 4 (or 5) years residing continuously on A permit:
From migri.fi (http://migri.fi/services/_application_f ... tion_forms)
Permanent residence permit application, OLE_JATKO_P_PEY
This form is for applying for either a permanent Finnish residence permit (P) or an EC residence permit (P-EY) for third-country nationals with long-term EC resident status. You are eligible for a permanent residence permit if you have lived in Finland on a continuous residence permit (A permit) for an uninterrupted period of four years. You are eligible for a P-EY residence permit if you have lived in Finland on a continuous residence permit (A permit) for an uninterrupted period of five years. If you are suspected of or have been found guilty of an offence, you may be denied a permanent residence permit or P-EY residence permit.
If you are not eligible for a permanent residence permit, you may be granted an extended fixed-term residence permit on the basis of your application.

Ugh.. the type of permit is not important. Point is, why would you want to apply so early? Type of permit has nothing to do with the question I was asking.automagic wrote:OP is asking about permanent RP. Re: can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
It is very important!!!! Please don't confuse posters with information that is not correct or based on a personal opinion.Kutittaa wrote:

Re: can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
Are you both stupid? What's with all these 'lowest common denominators' on the forums here?
I asked a question. The type of permit has nothing to do with my question. I think you need glasses buddy.
Obviously because you can't read. I said:
and you both go on about providing off-topic information when all I did was ask a question?
Ship of fools...

Re: can I apply for permanent resident permit NOW
Sorry we can't be as intelligent as you. You really are wasting your talents in this 'ship of fools'. Remind me again what happened to you. It is understandable the OP wants to apply as soon as possible for the P permit. Anyone with one status is eager to upgrade to a better one. To answer your question, sometimes it is beneficial to apply early mainly to offset any unforseeable circumstances that may affect the renewal if the application was postponed like urgent travel for example.

Look, I didn't sign up in FF to be insulted or being called names. It's always easy to do that behind a screen and keyboard for some people it seems. Therefore, I wouldn't want to reply to any of your negative remarks here.Kutittaa wrote:Are you both stupid? What's with all these 'lowest common denominators' on the forums here?

Doesn't it ever occur to you that someone out there might be in this situation:
Initial A RP: Valid for 1 year
2nd A RP (extension): valid for another 1 year
3rd A RP (second extension): valid for 3 / 4 years
The next logical step to apply after 4 / 5 years of residency on A RP is P RP.
He / she IS eligible to apply for P RP even though the 3rd A RP is still valid once the person met the residency requirement (which is 4 / 5 years). Is that so hard to answer without insulting OP and everyone that try to help here?
When June 2013 hits the clock, OP will be eligible to apply for P RP (like logic mentioned), he/she can apply for it even though the existing A RP is still valid. There's no harm doing it. One less thing to think about rather to let the exiting permit to lapse and expire due to whatever reason (forgetfulness for example) or rushing to renew at the final moment. Human is not perfect.
So, if the OP has 145€ to blow on June 2013 for a brand spanking new P RP, let him/her. Last time I check, this is a free country and everyone is free to do anything as long as you don't commit a crime.

Then think before you post.automagic wrote:Look, I didn't sign up in FF to be insulted or being called names.

So go ahead and derail some more threads, logic!

I'll say it one last time, the only thing I am interested in was the reason behind wanting to apply so early. It's a very harmless question, which you and logic over there happened to misinterpret in the most bizarre way possible... Whether he/she is allowed to or not is up to the law, and official writing.

Gosh some people will complain about anything

You need 4 years of continuous residence permit before you can apply for permanent one: http://www.poliisi.fi/poliisi/home.nsf/ ... endocumentwoundedsoul wrote:May i ask another question a bit off topic but please bear with me.

You have a steady job, history with residence permits... I would be surprised if you didn't get one now.
