Apply for citizenship while unemployed?

Post by madsum » Mon May 28, 2012 2:48 pm

Hi,

I can meet all requirements to apply citizenship. I completed my bachelor degree in IT form finland. Then I joined as a software engineer in Nokia and work there for 6 years but I lost my job recently. Now I joined an University as part time software project supervisor. I get paid hourly basis. I get 10-15 hours per month. So total salary about 800€ per month. As this is summer time so university is closed. I'm kind of jobless. I have contract to continue form next autumn. Thus I registered as unemployed in työvoimatoimisto. I also receive unemployment benefit from IAET-kassa about 1200€ per month. I almost gave up to get a new job in my field after trying many days :beamer: .

I passed YKI testi recently. So I'm thinking to apply for citizenship. After discussing with few friends There r mixed opinion. Few says if I have good history while living in Finland (e.g. no criminal record, regular tax, bill payment) is very important factor. Other says a permanent job is main the factor. So I'm confused who right.

My status living in Espoo:-
Monthly income unemployment benefit from IAET-kassa about 1200€ per month. Plus 800€ while university is open.
I always paid high tax since 2005. No pending bill at all.
No crime record at all.
My property 15,000€ investment in Finnish stock exchange, 40,000€ in fixed deposit account, Owner of an apartment which current market price is 150,000€ ( though 80,000€ mortgage left :( ).

So do u think I'm should apply for citizenship? If you have any other suggestions pleas kindly share with me. Thanks in advance!

You need to have strong ties among others to Finland in order to get citizenship. Having a part-time job and being on a social support isn't what I call a strong tie to Finland. Strong ties as far as I know are family ties, work, regufees. Since you have work tie with Finland and that as a part-timer, things aren't sunny for you, I'm afraid.

you can enquire these things from migri people or a lawyer as soon as possible because once your kassaraha period is over, you find yourself queuing for social support, and if that affects your citizenship application, then it's NOW the time to act.

As far as I can see only one person (me) even claimed they knew the answer.

That's true. But I cannot trust your answer (based on any law or something else). I can see the answer from 007 really made a strong point.

I don't to want gamble with my application. In case my application is denied 400€ will be wasted  .

I want to 100% certain for a positive decision before I proceed with it.

So you got the contradicting opinion after opening this second thread.

If had not started this second thread you would have noted I have quoted chapter and verse from Finlex in the first one...

If you want guaranteed correct answers, you ask the relevant authorities. If those answers are not something you want to hear, that's too bad. You don't keep opening threads in this forum until you get an answer you like. Ok?

That's the problem lack of knowledge where to ask question. Who is relevant authorities? U may refer "http://www.migri.fi/etusivu". But it doesn't mention any exceptional case like mine.

Wtf? Exceptional? First point in faq: "1. What kind of account of my livelihood must I provide when I apply for Finnish citizenship? " and last bulletin: "If your livelihood is based on social assistance, indicate the type of assistance received."

Never mind! I don't have many basic knowledges about these issue. Also don't have much knowledgeable friends who can suggest me based on some correct law.

Don't you think it's odd situation for citizenship application.

I don't even know:-

Does unemployment benefit from IAET-kassa considered as social benefit or not?

At this point I an maintain my living cost without any support. U can check my status. Should I apply for it with my current status?

So unemployment benefit is not social benefit.

For me it seems to be a social benefit. I said I know nothing about it.
