Residence Card?

Post by Roxsy Surowiak » Thu May 31, 2012 9:28 pm

Hey there!

I'm looking into moving to Finland in two years. I am an EU citizen from England that is hoping to work there. From researching, I don't think I need a Visa or residence permit, however after three months if I can sustain a job, I need to register with the local police to apply for a resident card. Is that correct?

Does anyone know any additional information? When you apply for the card, what do you do? Do you need to have any special documents at hand? What does 'applying' entail?

any info would be appreciated

"Residence card" would be for your non-EU husband or somebody like that, but yes, you should register within three months from your arrival (and your life will be easier if you do it as soon as you can)

Registering at the police is the easy part (bring your passport and your work contract), finding an excuse to get registered is usually harder (you need to have a job to get that work contract..). You fill in the form (maybe available online also), and pay the fee. If other family members are also applying, things like birth certificates of children and marriage certificates could be useful, better to bring them just in case.
