Requirements to living in Finland.. Also jobs!

Post by RedDawn » Sat Sep 15, 2012 6:29 pm

Hi I've have always been Fascinated by Finland when i was younger. I know some about the culture and very little of the language (studying it actually :D !) But enough about me and what I like to know is how hard is it to gain citizenship in Finland, if I am a United States citizen? Also would it make it easier if i had some sort of higher education like a master degree in Environmental Science. Would it be easier to gain citizenship with education backing me up? One more thing Would it be cake getting a job with Environmental Science  .

thank you!

How about you work on getting residence before you think about citizenship? You will need to live here for years before you can think about citizenship.

Why not come over here and study for a degree? It would be much easier to get a job here with a Finnish degree, and you would have time to see if you really want to settle here or not.

What they want to say - first get the difference between citizenship and residency permit straight. Information available on Google and in countless posts in this forum. Because I guess you just want to stay here for a certain time and not become a real Finn.

Otherwise: education is never bad, but first and foremost you would need very good Finnish skills, and learning the language is hard, very hard, and tikes time, alot of time. So judge yourself how far progressed in your Finnish studies you are and how long it might take you to get to a useful level. Without Finnish you will hardly find a job, and without a job you won't get a residency permit.

You don't say you have been in the country before, so maybe you wanna visit first before you actually move here, which is a big step. If you really want to come you should see if there are student exchange programs available for you so you can move here for a limited time at first, get a degree at least partially at a Finnish university, learn more of the language, and see if the culture really is your thing if you have to live in it and experience it on a daily basis.

Otherwise: job, studies or family ties, those are your option to permanently stay in Finnland. Choose your weapon!
