If you feel strongly that they made and that you have very strong objective evidence to prove that then you might consider appealing. My guess is that they thought that you were going to try to bypass the waiting time for applying for a residence permit by bringing your wife to Finland on a visa and then applying from here-perhaps the way you filled in the application gave them strong reasons to suspect that. Additionally, because so many of the terrorist activities in the west have ended up having some Pakistani connection, they are likely to be even more stringent on the visa applications-this is out of your hands unfortunately. A visa refusal will most definitely have an impact on future applications.

Well no matter how he filled the application immigration authorities would have suspected foot in the door scenario as both are students and neither is likely to have compelling reasons to return, and, pardon my cynicism, having read these threads I think they were bang on.

Residence permit on family ties, I gather, is no go as his residence, being a student, in Finland is temporary in nature and he is unlikely to be able to demonstrate sufficient income to support his wife if she was allowed in Finland. Her best bet probably is to try and get a student RP on her own right.

Umm, it isn't his business to demonstrate the income or funds. The applicant has to do it herself. Migri says: "student's adult family member 630 7 560" so I suppose students do bring spouses and they do get permits ( http://www.migri.fi/moving_to_finland_t ... equirement ).

There was a thread some time back when someone was unhappy when the initial rp was very short as it was based on the rp of the spouse's student rp.
