Re: essivi help
jouluna, pääsiäisenä, juhannuksena, perjantaina, syntymäpäivänä, ensi kuun viidentenätoista päivänä...laurad3 wrote:i have another question

When referring to holidays, the names of weekdays, or dates, the essive means “on that date/holiday”:
Mitä teet jouluna?
“What do you do on Christmas?”
“What are you going to do on Christmas?”
Minne menet keskiviikkona?
“Where are you going to go on Wednesday?”
The translative (-ksi) would be used to signify “for” or “by”:
Hän saapui jouluksi kotiin,
“He came home for Christmas.”
This would either mean the person referred to in the sentence “made it”: was able to arrive for/by Christmas, didn’t miss it — or just that he has arrived for the Christmas (time) and intends to stay at home through the whole of Christmas.
Another way to use -ksi:
Esitelmän täytyy olla valmis torstaiksi. (torstaihin mennessä)
“The presentation needs to be ready by Thursday.”

Mitä sinä teet jouluksi? Teen pipareita.
Mitä sinä teet jouluna? Syön ne piparit.
