I used a washing machine with broken bearing for a while. I wouldn't use it without supervision and limit the spinning speed if possible.

At least insurance companies tend to have policy that you should not use a washing machine without supervision even if it had been functioning OK.

Is it enough if I listen to it or do I have to sit in front and stare?

Mine would make unholy noise and try to bounce around and the drum certainly beat itself around the insides. So I didn't watch it, but I certainly was ready to _run_ to disconnect it. If it hadn't been so near of moving time i would have fixed it/bought a new machine.

Mine isn't bouncing at all. It just clicks loudly twice every rotation. I am giving it time to start shaking or so before I buy a new one.
And weirdly enough it feels more in balance on 1400 rotations than 800.

Not ready to say good bye to another 300€ yet..

Is it a top loader or a front loader?

Sometimes you can break or stretch a suspension spring (one of 4-8 or more) rather than damaging a bearing. That can make an internal assembly oscillate a little farther than usual and make noises. That's probably true of either kind of washer, but I'm more familiar with the top loaders. A spring is less work than a bearing but often requires special equipment nonetheless.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Off topic.
Thanks mita for the useful link. In a related video, the service person disassembles the draining pump and finds a piece of cloth and other debris inside. That's amazing because a washing machine is usually equipped with a mesh filter to protect the pump and the filter can be removed easily for cleaning.
Anyway this November we had problem with our 12-years old Electrolux washing machine. The pump did not always work and left the water inside, this prevented the spinning process and the laundry were dripping wet after the whole wash process were over. I thought that the pump needed cleaning or replacement. I tried to disassemble the washing machine but it was too tough. As a last measure we bought lemon acid powder from apteekki (2€) and tried to get rid of lime accumulation. This maintenance procedure was not done for seven years. After this procedure the pump works nicely and makes different noises than before. I was ready to shell out 300€ for a new washing machine but now the old machine's OK.

it's a top loader. I don't know how it sounds anymore :(
It can be anything from the rotating mechanism. The fact is that except for the tapping or clattering noise (in the beginning only while rotating one direction) i does nothing. Not more wabbly, nothing.
But, thanks to you guys, this discussion and my view on the problem got a new, more philosophical dimension ;)

Broken bearing would not be my first thought when hearing a clicking sound in a washing machine (and i've opened up & repaired quite a few). It's not impossible but not very likely either. In my history of repairing washing machines, loud clicks were always caused by items hanging from the drum and hitting the heating coils. On one particular occasion, a bra was ripped to pieces by the washing machine and the steel wire reinforcement in the bra smashed all three heating coils.

so:
1-check all holes in the drum if something is hanging from them
2-beware of the killer bra

Uhm I am an engineer ;) I recognize clicking sound when something hangs.

UPDATE: My washing machine has slowly started its agonic dance. Soon enough I'll have to sit on it to keep it in place ;) (Mook, whatever you think- don't say it)
