American Breakfast... Anywhere?

Does anyone know of any restaurants in the Helsinki area that have anything even remotely resembling an American breakfast? For example, biscuits, pancakes, eggs, etc-- really anything besides the sweet-icing-covered pastries served at Finnish cafes?

About pancakes I don't know, but apart from hotels, couple of options that have been available for long for
"really anything besides the sweet-icing-covered pastries"

I know there is plenty of others among cafe's but I haven't been really been a potential customer for number of years. Several options listed here (with review) who can read Finnish or can decipher what Google translate generates

Not going to help you much but I had one in an establishment which called itself “Classic American Diner”, located at the edge of the (then just remodeled) Vaasa Market Square. In Vaasa, that is, not Helsinki. I thought the location was almost purpose-built for them, as it was this new (but old-looking) narrow glass-and-copper building with rounded ends and a passing resemblance of a street car or a railroad car mixed with art deco...

Sadly, they lasted for about a year or so and were then replaced by some generic pizza parlor, and then an R-kioski, with tacky yellow window film plastered all over the place — adhering to the retail image of the chain. It’s an ugly eyesore now for such a central location and probably something the architect never intended for that building.

“Classic American Diner” still has two other locations in Tampere. I guess you don’t want to hop on a train to Tampere for your breakfast, though...

In over 5 years here I have never seen a biscuit anywhere (besides my own). No you Brits, not a cookie.

I don't think the majority of Finns would know what a biscuit is if you tried to describe it to them, hell they wouldn't know it if you handed them one. For that matter, most people from New England don't know what a proper biscuit is.

Best bet, learn to make your own. Sorry, I know that was of no help.

Haven't been there myself, but Brooklyn Café in Punavuori seems to be popular. No eggs etc. on the menu, but might be worth a try. The owners are American. FB page, eat.fi reviews.

I agree that they do not know what a biscuit is. I did not know it either until I witnessed one happening in a park in Atlanta, Georgia where they distributed small basic hamburgers to homeless people in one morning. They called it biscuit.

Hehe...if they have to call themselves Classic American Diner then they most likely aren't. 4.20 for a Snapple? Oy vey. Also, looking at the menu on their site, I wonder why the picture of the breakfast platter includes hamburger fixings?

Some hotels have good breakfast if you don't mind paying 16€+ for it.
Otherwise I haven't seen any Classic American Breakfast in the last seven years.
Fortunately, It's been a good opportunity to learn how to cook food I enjoy.

I can't think of any that I saw when I visited last, however you should be able to find most of the ingredients in the market and make one yourself. Homemade breakfasts are always better, any way!

Finland isn't a place where you go out for breakfast - hotels almost always include it for free. workplaces have their staff restaurants open for breakfast. there is just not the demand in helsinki that you would find in Germany or Paris. And the chance of finding a place that offered american style breakfast extremely remote. who would go there? finns - they would hardly be excited by it. americans - wouldn't they be in hotels.. so they would ignore their included breakfast and go out?
