5 days in Finland

Post by nukhing » Mon Mar 04, 2013 2:41 pm

Dear guys,
I'm going to be in Finland for 5 days. Could you please recommend me places to go and what I should do?
If possible, please suggest me the cheapest way to survive there.
Thank you
:D

You would really help yourself out if you told more about what you want to do, etc.
Are you travelling alone or with a big family? Kids? Your approximate age (do you want to go out and drink or do you want to visit some nice museums?).
What kind of things interest you? Do you like nature or sleazy bars? Come on, help us out here...

Opps! sorry I didn't give enough information.

I'm going there with my friend, but she will be with the conference for 3 days. So, most of the time I will be alone there.
Actually, I love all kind of activities. I love visiting nature and historic places, and also wanna try local food there as well. I prefer to be in Helsinki as I don't have enough budget to go to many cities.

Thank you so much :D

Before June or during/after June?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

OK, Suomenlinna for one, quite unique, nice picnick place. If you want to see old houses and tame squirrels, then Seurasaari. Going to Seurasaari theres the bronze age settlement so thats interesting too.
National Museum, maybe Ateneum for art, if you like history then War Museum... sit in the 3B/3T tram for a couple of rounds... if you see an interesting neighbourhood go explore. With the trams you can't get so lost.... what else... Mark Knopfler and Rush got dates at areena then... Even if you say you don't want to spend too much money, a ferry trip to Tallinn might be the thing as it isn't so expensive and you get some sea air into you. And can have much fun percieving cultural stereotypes and differences..

Note that the traditional sightseeing tram lines 3T and 3B will become lines 2 and 3 on June 4th.

Dear all,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I'm so excited to be there.
I will stay at Hostel Academica in Helsinki.
Are there supermarket nearby that I can buy fresh food to cook?

Thanks again.

Check out these posts: click, click. While there are some broken links, I guess most of them still work. You could also use the names of the Helsinki neighborhoods when searching in Fonecta.fi.

There are at least two in the Kamppi center and and two outside it in Salomonkatu.

Check out this blog and also @VisitHelsinki in Twitter.
Blog page about other places than Helsinki is included.
If heading to Helsinki (the most expensive place of all), use market places, Lild, bakery stores and supermarkets. If hanging out in bars, go to famous area for bars, called Kallio, just 1,5 km away from centre (Underground station: Sörnäinen).
