After how many km's does it become more economical than petrol, due to the tax you have to pay on Diesel fuel?

Re: diesel fuel
The break-even point used to be at 17.000 km, but I think its higher now

Re: diesel fuel
I have seen a figure of 18 500 km but surely it will vary depending on the fuel consumption of the vehicles being considered? A single one-size-fits-all figure makes little sense to me.
Re: diesel fuel
Last time I did the sums I got 10-12k. Depends on how much less fuel the diesel is going to use.

Re: diesel fuel
I guess if you are close enough to the cut-off point that you need to calculate it your choice of car is likely to hinge on other things anyway. My car is 49 weeks old and has done 49 000 km so I know diesel was financially a sound choice for me.
Re: diesel fuel
It does not only depend on fuel consumption and kilometers, it also depends quite a bit on the capital cost from price gap between diesel and gasoline sister models. Thought I think with some makes the gap has shrunk quite a bit. The calculator omits this cost as well what I assume bit higher maintenance cost for a Diesel.
