Certificate of Non Impediment Marriage: Text / Form

Post by koelsche_buckeye » Sat May 18, 2013 11:37 am

Hi there. Does anyone know if the US Embassy provides a form for the certificate of non-impediment or do I need to bring my own letter to notarized?

If I need to bring it, is there any specific text that the Finnish council requires? I have asked them yesterday, but they did not give me any details or insight into what is needed.

Thanks in advance!

Here is some information from the US Embassy: http://finland.usembassy.gov/marriage.html

If I recall correctly, (It's been a few years since I did it), you make an appointment, go there, give them money (about €40) and they give you the form to fill in there, which they will notarize. If you have been married before, bring proof that your marriage was legally ended. I didn't have my divorce papers and it wasn't a problem, but this was five years ago. It's probably better to be over-prepared.

The notarized affadavit that the Embassy provided contained all the necessary text for Maistraatti.

Thanks, Ritan.

I was hoping that they would have the form, but was a little confused as the website stated that you needed to bring the documents to be notarized.

It's really not clear, is it? I only remember because I remember having to fill in forms, then waiting and waiting.

I think this was the hardest part. The Maistraatti forms and the marriage itself - piece of cake.

I got the certificate from the consulate just a few months ago. They have the form, you just need to fill it out. The form also asks for your future spouse's info (full name, date of birth, place of birth) so it would be a good idea to have that info handy. I forgot the name of the town where my wife was born and had to go back out through security to call her, then back through security again to get back in.

Other than that, it was easy. You make an appointment online so you shouldn't have to wait too long once you get through security, which was surprisingly thorough. I didnt have to wait at all. They called me up as soon as I got inside.

They have the form, since they mentioned notarization I also wondered if I needed to write a letter...but it also stated any documents if I recall, so I also took that as in needing any documents to be notarized from a divorce or what not to ensure that you are in fact single or legally divorced.

It was very easy, they have the form, you fill out it out (make sure you know your birth city/place) and you'll need your Gf's birthplace and birthdate as well...they won't let anyone in that doesn't have official business.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies. As all have stated, the embassy had the form and just took five minutes to fill out.
