Good Colorectal Surgeon in Finland (Anal Fissure)
Hi everyone, I am a non-EU student and currently studying in Finland. I have been suffering from anal fissure for a long time. I would like to ask if somebody can suggest me any good Colorectal Surgeon with lots of experience in anal fissure treatment, maybe in Helsinki or any big city within Finland such as Oulu, Tampere.
Btw, I also want to buy a health insurance which can cover for my treatment if I need to go to hospital for a surgery. Could you please suggest me a good health insurance package ? I am a student and do not have Kela card. Therefore, it's pretty much expensive for me if I go to a private healthcare center or private hospital in Finland.
Thank you so much !

You're confusing an insurance with a charity. Insurance companies offer coverage for bad things that might happen to you with pricing that should (on average) keep them in business (profitable). They do not donate money by insuring you against things that are 100% sure to happen as they have already happened. Yo don't get a medical insurance for pre-exisiting condition anymore than you'll get a fire insurance to a house that is already in flames.

If you are a non-EU student, to get a RP you already have a health insurance?

And if you are EU, you should have the European heath insurance card.

He's not EU.
And you can't just go to any hospital anywhere in Finland. Giving birth, you can, but not for procedures as far as I know.
You are assigned to a hospital the city you reside in uses, generally.
If you had this issue before you came to Finland, why didn't you get it fixed before coming here? Or would you have had to pay in your own country and think you can get it free here?
As the other poster said.... How did you get a student's permit without health insurance?
You'll have to pay if you want it done. Maybe then you could go to any hospital you want. But since an anal fissure isn't a life endangering thing to suffer from, it could quite a while to have any kind of surgery done on it, if it's needed. Most fissures need some form of surgery to get rid of them because they are tunnels caused by abcesses or something of this nature. They don't usually heal, so I've read.
No way anyone is going to insure you. If you lie about not having a fissure.... They're not stupid. Fissures are a long term problem. They'll know you lied in the forms if you suddenly apply for surgery anyway.

You are talking about Kela rules, but he is not covered by Kela.Flossy1978 wrote:He's not EU.

And this is the important point:Flossy1978 wrote:As the other poster said.... How did you get a student's permit without health insurance?
The exact terms of his student health insurance are what matters.

Ahhh.... So if you don't have KELA coverage, you can just pick and choose what hospital you want to go to? Wow.... But then I suppose you or your insurance has to pay for it all, right? Do you think people in such a position are put ahead of the line compared to Fins? Or they are just put in the line like any normal Fin? Sorry, I like to learn about unimportant useless things LOL.

Naah, you go to a doctor as "private" and he has a deal with the hospital as "special pay category". See just like you go to the guessing centre and they refer you to the heart specialist, and he says you need bypass and the queue is 8 months, flipping 15 000 on the table you can be operated in 8 hours. In the same hospital in the same theatre that theres the 8 month queue to.
Theres also "private hospitals" but those are a bit rarer and of course then you talk of 50 000 on the table...
Or do you think Beckham queued up with his tendon at the ER?

Of course he might try to tell the insurance company a different story, but IMHO what he told here has got "pre-existing condition, not covered" with blinking cow sized letters written all over it.Adrian42 wrote: The exact terms of his student health insurance are what matters.

Not assuming anything. If they consider it pre-existing condition they will deny coverage, irrespective of the information given earlier.
Re: Good Colorectal Surgeon in Finland (Anal Fissure)
More likely coverage would have been excluded for that particular ailment. Possibly worsening of the situation might have been covered, but coverage for risk that is certainty because it has already happened is against the basic idea what insurance is.FloydFin wrote:If there was a pre-existing condition wouldn't that mean he would've paid a higher premium?

If there was a pre-existing condition wouldn't that mean he would've paid a higher premium? The fact he didn't even mention anything about the student health insurance and jumped straight to local insurance companies is a strong indicator he didn't provide a genuine one in the first place.
I agree with this.... Or he thinks if he doesn't mention it, he'll get away with using the insurance to pay for the needed medical care. But fissures don't come overnight, so either way, no one will believe him.

I don't know about Finnish health insurance companies, but in the UK no health insurance plan would cover you for a 'pre-existing condition'.

Re: Good Colorectal Surgeon in Finland (Anal Fissure)
No insurance company does that, unless forced by national health insurance legislation (which at the same time would force you to get one or at least penalize not having one). In addition, Finnish companies I think are still not in business of giving health insurance for people without a KELA card anyway.snorlonikins wrote: I don't know about Finnish health insurance companies, but in the UK no health insurance plan would cover you for a 'pre-existing condition'.
