Hi,
I am thinking of buying a kayak as I see there are a lot of them in Helsinki, but I wonder where people store them in winter? We have storage room in our block of flats, but it seems to be too small for kayaks.

Some clubs own truck containers which can be used to store them Summer & Winter.

Mine sits in a garage (just!) next to the car. As Mook said, if you join a club you'll have a good chance of getting somewhere to store your kayak. Although it's common to have club boats for member use so then you have the option of borrowing instead of buying and your storage issues vanish 
Other options are inflatable or split model kayaks. Easier to store but paddling performance can be compromised, depends on your needs really.
