Residence registration

I have a question regardingthe residence registration that has to be done at the police for EU citizens staying for longer than three months:

I will be studying in Finland for the next year, so I want to open a bank account and get a mobile subscription. For that, it seems that I need a Finnish ID. To get that, I need to get my residence registration at the local police station, then go to the local register office to ask for an ID. I have troubles with the residence registration.
My residence is located in Espoo, so I should be visiting the Espoo police station, but that requires reservation. Using the reservation site (https://poliisi.ajanvaraus.fi/rms.do?url=poliisi, option "Euroopan unionin kansalaisen rekisteröinti"), I can't get an appointment before late September. I saw that there is an online form for this (https://e-asiointi.migri.fi/eServices/), but that still requires me to go to the police with the documents, so I guess I still need an appointment.

Did I interpret everything correctly? Does it really take that long to get the Henkilötunnus?

Yes.

You are not getting that from the police, you are getting it from Maistraatti.

I get that from Maistraatti, but to apply for it, I need the papers of the residence registration from the police, correct?

No, these two are completely unrelated.

As a student, the maistraatti will put you in the books, but usually as a "temporary" domiciled before you "prove" you're in the country to stay (2 years or more - at least intend to). If you then get say a full-time job - its easy to go to the police, prove you are working, and then with the police paper and contract go and have the maistraatti switch the "temp" to "perm"...

I went to the maistraatti, filled out the form, but I was told I only get an ID number once I get that paper from the police. I told them that I have to wait two months for a police appointment, but all they could tell me is to call the police in Kirkkonummi and maybe they can do it faster. Too bad everything depends on that damned ID, event the HSL discount.
