Kela Decision - then card?

Post by eva888 » Tue Aug 06, 2013 12:22 pm

Hi,

I moved here a month before I started work and applied at the local Kela office for healthcare. I just got my decision from Kela in the mail, and my Finnish is not good so I've had trouble translating it. I think that it says that I am not covered for the first month but only once my job actually started (August 1). Anyway, my question is - there is no card. Does that come later? I have medication that is going to run out in several weeks - I only brought enough for the first two months of living here since I figured I would have everything sorted out by then. How long does it usually take to get the card in the mail after your decision comes? And is that even how it works?

I got my decision in the mail, and then my card came later.

I haven't yet used healthcare, so I hope others will chime in here, but my understanding is that you can go to the doctor and get healthcare/prescriptions even if your card hasn't come in the mail yet.

You can take the decision paper in lieu of the card... you should be "in the computer"...

You always have the option to submit the receipts with an application to Kela and they will reimburse you after the fact.
