Kirpputori

Post by Ninoo » Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi everybody :)

I have noticed this word (Kirpputori) on several stores all around Helsinki. I understand that these stores sell second-hand items (mainly clothes), but how do they get these items? In other words can I go sell my old clothes to these stores directly ??

Yeah you can go there, ask for a table, then you pay something like 30€ a week. Once you have it organised, you take your stuff in, and arrange it on the given table. They give you pricetags beforehand to put on your stuff so they can scan it.
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

kirpputori comes in 2 flavours:
-the stores you've already seen, where you rent a table and it's self service for the customers.
-weekly kirpputori, like the summer ones here and there, and the big one near passila(here you rent a table for a day and sell your own stuff).

Then there is the goodwill stores, but that's donation based.
The only secondhand stuff you can usually sell to shops is books, most antikvariaatti buy up books, though they are stingy ;D
