Is it still good time for Fishing ?

Post by S.richard » Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:38 pm

Hi,
I am planning to take license for 1 or 2 days and wanna to go for lure fishing this week. But not sure if it is good time for fishing. However I am finding some big Hauki (pike) now a days in K and S market, thats why I am little bit interested. Could anybody Suggest or have some experience of fishing in this time of the year? I live in Espoo.

regards,
Richard

don't know about espoo area, but hauki will be good now, and bit better the next 2 months still.

Untill it gets really cold, you can fish pretty damn well.
Living at saimaa, i fish atleast once a week, hauki is pretty standard to get 1 per hour(usually around 1-3 kg ones).

Grab a decent casting rod, a couple of medium spinners and you'll do great.
If you want to fish with spoonlures, get a decent reedlure or 2 from kuusamo.

Hauki is tasty, but pretty hard to filet, due to the center y bones, medium to big ahven is what is the best eating.

This is very true :D

I usually fillet hauki using a method which leaves no bones, but you do need to chuck away quite a bit of fish. There are some excellent videos on youtube showing many similar methods to achieve this. Happy fishing!

Anyone fancy giving me some fishing tips? I have never fished before and keep being asked by my sons to take them. I live near the sea in HKI.

Good start for a tackle box.
Try to start in fresh water, you'll need a license for casting rods, no license for worm fishing.
Toknet/tarjoustalo is a good place for buying some kit on the cheap.(they have the decent brands there, starter rods/reel kits from abu etc.)

For freshwater casting (hauki/ahven) best is a spinner bait or a spoon lure, small ahven you can get with wormfishing too, but you'll get a lot of trash fish too.

I make soup with my hauki, if I boil the bigger hauki the tasty flesh is easy to pick off from the bone. Usually I make it with ahven also and some spicy makaraa or choritzo. Sorry for my spelling.

Hauki is good for soup indeed, also great for fishcakes if you have a foodprocessor(saves you from having to get the y bones out).
Ahven i always filet, since they just are too good with flour, salt and fried in butter :D
You can smoke ahven very well indeed, but hauki doesn't work so well.
särki(common roach) is concidered a trash fish mostly, but does quite okay in fishpies and/or stews.
Some people can särki, mostly because it will soften the bones, similar to canned sardines.
