on behalf of my friend

Post by Kani » Sun Apr 06, 2014 12:26 am

Hi,

On behalf of my friend am asking few questions.

one of my friend kid is in daycare about the age 5 and they had a meeting in that meeting they found that the kid had told the sometimes the mom or dad will scold when the kid does something wrong. The question is now they have asked the parents to go to perheneuvola exactly we dont know what it is. Can any one explain what it is and how to face the situation. They are really worried about this and think they will separate the kid from the family. it will be nice if anyone give the exact happening in that perheneuvola please.

Thanks in advance.

Can you define "scolding" in this particular case?

The school has some concerns and asked a professional to look into it.

It totally depends on what the kid told, what the real situation is and how the parents react.

The main intention of this conversation is to determine if there are problems and how they can be solved.
It is not a witch hunt to find an excuse to separate the child from its parents.

Your friend should be aware that corporal punishment is illegal in Finland (including against your own child).

I work as social worker in Finland so I think I can answer this question. In Finland, chidren's situation is taken seriously. If they face any kind of violence (even very slight) from their parents or any other adults, and the people in daycare get to know about this, the personel must inform child welfare services about it. Usually this leads to a discussion with child welfare social workers who usually give some kind of further advices for the family. One could be that the parents go to talk about their situation at home with psychologies and social workers at perheneuvola. Children are not taken away from their parents unless these discussions don't work and the violence continues all the time.
