Tax (deductions & English help)

Post by eva888 » Tue May 06, 2014 1:03 pm

Hi! I got my tax return forms in the mail a few weeks ago, and I have a few questions.

Are there any official forms or help in English? Filling out a tax return in the US is confusing and nauseating enough for me, so I have not even attempted this Finnish form. I have a friend from work who said that he would help me with my form, but if there is any kind of English help I would really appreciate that. I would like to know what's going on.

I wanted to know if I can write off my moving expenses. Has anyone done this? I want to at least write off my residence permit fee and my plane ticket. I am also trying to write off my trip for my audition/interview to get the job in the first place (just the plane ticket and hotel cost).

If anyone can direct me towards some English tax help that would be great! Thanks!

I'm doubtful of you'll succeed with your suggested deductions (you can try, of course. I guess they'd have to fit under the "Expenses for the production of income" title).

Sample forms and some other information in English you can find here: http://www.tax.fi/en-US/Individuals/Income_Tax_Returns

I'm surprised if you did not get the mailed forms in English(?)

Some might try, but vero won't grant either.

Looks like those specific deductions are not going to fly.

But you should look, general daily travel to work deductions (depends how far you have to travel). Or if you have some work done at your home which is deductable.

Here are some instructions in English, not very comprehensive (but the ones in Finnish arent that great either).

Are you a salaried employee of a company or are you working as a sole-trader (toiminimi or some other "company")?
