enrollment as present and absent question
hi.so i finally got admitted into an adult education bachelor but it is stated that adult education students can only enrol as absent,is there any drawbacks from that? because honestly i have no idea what all this absent present thing means, thank you very much for any help.
Re: enrollment as present and absent question
Can you cut and paste the exact wording here or give us a link to the webpage?
I don't understand why you could ONLY enrol as absent. That sounds weird.
If a student is offered a place but wishes to complete his military service before he goes to UAS then he/she might enrol as absent. But it is a choice.

Re: enrollment as present and absent question
hi,rosa, here what's stated in the guide that i received by email,
ENROLMENT AS PRESENT OR ABSENT
A person who has been accepted as a student and who has accepted a study place has to enrol as a student the way the polytechnic orders. After that she or he will be registered as a student.
Every student has to enrol each academic year as present or absent the way the UAS orders.
The student can enrol absent for two academic years at the maximum. The enrolment has to be done annually. Absence does not shorten the maximum duration of studies.
Students who have been admitted to adult education have only possibility to enrol as absent.
i can attach you the full pdf if you like, thank you again for your help.

Re: enrollment as present and absent question
If that is cut and pasted then...
Isn't it worrying that a UAS can offer courses in English but struggle to communicate clear instructions in the language?
Enrolling as PRESENT means that you accept the place and will turn up for the first day of studies (as directed by your university).
Enrolling as ABSENT means that you accept the place they are offering you BUT you will defer your studies for one year. (You might do this if, for example, you are doing military service). You can defer your place for two consecutive years but no more than that.
The sentence which makes no sense at all is:
a) Students who have not been admitted to the university cannot enrol as absent (which is so obvious that it is weird they would even bother to mention it)
b) Students who have been admitted to non-adult education cannot enrol as absent eg If there courses for teenagers in the same place? (But then the correct wording would be "Only students who have been offered places in adult education are allowed to enrol as absent").
c) Students who have been offered a place cannot enrol as present. (This would be stupid but it is exactly what they have written).
If you want to accept the place and you want to start in August, then just answer "present" or send them an email.
Which college/uni is offering you a place?
I found the following explanation on Oulu UAS' website: http://www.oamk.fi/english/exchange_opp ... =enrolment
The English is good and I think the explanations are quite clear. They are probably the same at your Uni, but you should double check to be sure.

Re: enrollment as present and absent question
thank you rosa,i think you covered all the possibilities,so i'll do as you said i will just confirm the place as present,it's possibly just a typo,as you said it don't make sense, most likely they meant "can only enroll as present" since from the oulu university website i understand that adult education is not offered every year,so being absent wouldn't be possible because It may be difficult to start the studies after the absence as there's a chance that the degree will not exist anymore later when you come back from the absence. thank you very much for clarifying this for me.

Re: enrollment as present and absent question
Yes, that's true. If they do not intend to continue this course in the future then you would not be able to defer entry.
