Partner visa renewal
Partner visa renewal
I was living Finland on a partner visa during 2013 and now live in Australia, but want to renew the partner visa. Is it possible to do this online or do I have to do it in person at a police station in Finland?
Re: Partner visa renewal
Presumably you mean a "residence permit" not a "visa". The renewal is supposed to be applied in Finland. If you let it expire, you can of course apply for new one...

Re: Partner visa renewal
Applications for residence permit extensions require a visit to the Police because they need to take your fingerprints. The process can be started online. However, see as RIP said you are likely to be required to make a fully new application at the embassy.case wrote:Is it possible to do this online or do I have to do it in person at a police station in Finland?
Re: Partner visa renewal
Can I apply in person at a police station in Finland without my Finnish partner? I will arrive in Finland a month before she does.
Re: Partner visa renewal
If they haven't changed the rules recently, you can. I'd be more worried what happens if/when your partner isn't living here. With a bit of luck the processing won't start before month has passed though.

Re: Partner visa renewal
Do you have knowledge if the OP would prevail on appeal? I would hope that at least to save resources they would grant the appeal if the requirements are satisfied at the time of appeal.Rip wrote:If they haven't changed the rules recently, you can. Re: Partner visa renewal
I'd guess so (but is the appeal any faster than reapplication?)
I don't particularly doubt the OP wouldn't get his permit eventually, it is just a question how much hassle there is before that. Well, the situation is what it is. Fill in the form truthfully (it may be less than obvious what boxes to tick at few places, but the police officer reading it through should anyway be able to get the correct understanding of the situation). Maybe there is no problem.

Re: Partner visa renewal
I was thinking appeal would make the permit start earlier (residence period for citizenship) and there would be no danger of residing illegally. My guess would be that the appeal is slower.Rip wrote:I'd guess so (but is the appeal any faster than reapplication?)
Re: Partner visa renewal
While under appeal you arent residing illegally but you arent residing legally either, you are in limbo. Dont go in limbo.betelgeuse wrote:I was thinking appeal would make the permit start earlier (residence period for citizenship) and there would be no danger of residing illegally. I don't think there's a limbo:onkko wrote: While under appeal you arent residing illegally but you arent residing legally either, you are in limbo. Dont go in limbo.

If you appeal "lainvoimainen ratkaisu" comes from the appeal court(s). If you don't appeal then the decision of police is final and you are residing illegally.
Re: Partner visa renewal
You can stay here of course, i think we have misunderstanding. In most of goverment cases you arent here legally (legal = residence permit). Read Kela etc. So in your own expence withouth any goverment help you can stay and wait.betelgeuse wrote:I don't think there's a limbo:onkko wrote: While under appeal you arent residing illegally but you arent residing legally either, you are in limbo. To goverment you dont exist, so no driving license or any kind of licence. You dont have residence permit=bad for you, cant help.
Thats what i ment about residing legally. You do not have all rights of legal resident because you are "not kicked out yet illegal".

The OP has already resided here so there'a already a personal identity code. Even so getting to the system does not always require residence permit to have been issued.onkko wrote: You can stay here of course, i think we have misunderstanding. Kela decision can come into force from the date of the resident permit application:

"Jos oleskelulupaa on haettu ulkomaalaislain 60 §:ssä tarkoitetuissa tapauksissa Suomessa ja se on myönnetty, tämän lain mukainen oleskelulupavaatimus täyttyy jo lupahakemuksen jättämisestä."
There will no doubt be problems from not having a residence permit but still residing in Finland might be preferred to the alternative(s).

I have personal ID in sweden, havent been there since 1981.
Everyone is registeded regardless legality of their stay.
Foreign is member of municipality where his legal member of family recides, ok and so? Doesnt say anything about legality.

Lets say this comes on, it still does mean that while i wait im out of luck. I may have something back but i still would be "illegal"betelgeuse wrote: "Jos oleskelulupaa on haettu ulkomaalaislain 60 §:ssä tarkoitetuissa tapauksissa Suomessa ja se on myönnetty, tämän lain mukainen oleskelulupavaatimus täyttyy jo lupahakemuksen jättämisestä."

It says the law is applied to the family member. Not that the municipality is the one of the family member. We already established the legality of the residence. Many laws are not tied to residence permits at all. For example income support:onkko wrote: Foreign is member of municipality where his legal member of family recides, ok and so?
