Questions about dental implant situation ?

Post by Samer2010 » Sat Sep 06, 2014 3:50 pm

Hi,

One of my front teeth was broken, and I think the only solution is dental implant. So, I have a few questions, and I would really appreciate if you share your knowledge and experiences with me:

1) I have KELA card, Assuming that I will wait in the queue for a treatment in the public health care, Do they offer dental implant? If Yes, Any idea what is the cost range would be?

2) I did a little research and found that the cost of "dental implant" in Finland is around 2000 Euros, insanely expensive, But, Maybe the quality and the reliability worth it? What do you think? Any knowledge or experiences, Please?

3) What do you think about treatment in other countries? Frankly, I am afraid to go to: Hungary or Estonia, and I will regret it because the results might not be good. Any recommendations about specific good clinics or doctors, Please?

4) Any one has any knowledge or experiences about dental implant in Germany?

I hope to hear from you soon !

I can't answer your questions about implants in Finland except that I would've guessed nearer 3000€ for a full implant. I don't think KELA does them hence the outrageous prices in the private sector. But if you have a healthy tooth (and roots) maybe you could have a crown rather than an implant. Not sure it would be much cheaper though. And I don't think KELA offer those either.

I have had dental work done in Hungary (I was living in Budapest at the time) - the work was extremely well done, very efficient, good quality work and the dental surgeries were up-to-date using techniques that I hadn't even received in France at the time. I was really impressed but that was over 10 years ago. A lot of French people travel to Hungary for dental work - it has a good reputation and there are even companies that will arrange "voyages dentaires" including flights, hotels, appointments etc.

Don't be afraid of Estonia. My experience so far has been good (ok, not with something so advanced as a dental implant). Not surprised that an implant would cost so much in Finland. In Estonia it would be somewhere between 500-900 euros.

I had just arrived and was staying for 5 days. I was very reluctant to go to a dentist there and was considering returning back to Finland to go to a dentist in Joensuu. My friend assured me that most dentists are well trained and quality of dental care in the private sector was very high. I went and was so happy to have done so. I didn't need the tooth removed but she built up the tooth. Took 45 mins from start to end of the procedure. She had all the newest technology and equipment. She asked me to return to see her on the day I was leaving just to make sure that all was OK. Cost me 50-60 euros for her time and materials. I had had a similar job done at a private dentist in Tku just a few weeks ago (a different tooth, btw) and it cost me 150 euro. And I never got an invitation to inspect the job a week afterward.
I don't know about Estonia or Poland, etc. but I can say that I was very impressed with the Russian dentist, clinic and work she did. If I had something bigger to do like an implant, etc. to have done in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to make the journey back there.
Whatever we do say about russians one thing is not to berate their "medical people". Thats one thing communism did right or wasn't able to @#$% up. Supplies and general stuff are horrible but people are professionals who do their best on what they have. And in case of private they probably have needed things.

Never had a dental implant, got a couple of ceramic fillings in my molars from Oral, a private chain. Both were around the €400 mark, and the work was good. I had a short follow up with the first one as they didn't quite get the bite right.

I'd suppose finnish dentists have a lot of experience with incisor implants in young men, quite a few people I know have them - presumably from coming off worse in a fight with an ice-hockey puck / stick / pitch / an opponent... a sport seemingly designed mainly to smash your teeth in.

Well - here's a bottom line:

I was in Prague in 1968 and a front tooth broke off. They replaced it with a wooden one - no charge!

The question's not as silly as it sounds, the dentist will ask the same thing and want to reattach it if possible.
The question if I still had the piece of wood? Didn't see any other 'questions' of that type.

Then you could go to Tallinn, in the harbour theres "Rene Puusepp, hambaartzti". (Renny Woodsmith, dentist)

Thank you all, I do appreciate your inputs.

Thankfully, I have managed to get a temporarily fix for my broken tooth (Neither implant nor crown) here in Finland which was kinda expensive but still under 500 Euros.

Before writing my first post, I know that Estonia and Hungary have great and skilled dentists, and they have crappy dentists too. Equally, I am pretty sure that Finland, UK, US...etc have great and skilled dentists, and they have crappy dentists too.

So, What is the difference between the freaking expensive Finnish/Danish dentist comparing to the reasonable Estonian/Hungarian one?

I strongly believe that When it comes to your heath, You should NEVER EVER scrimp on that, and you must try to get the highest quality that you can afford.

Apart the superior skills of the Estonian/Hungarian/Finnish/Danish dentists, the ONLY single difference is that in countries like Finland and Denmark dentists use extremely high quality and durable materials that are produced in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, While in countries like Estonia and Hungary dentists use good quality and maybe durable materials that are produced locally in their countries or maybe at best importing them from South Korea.

hmmm, Which materials you would prefer to have in your body?

Well, they've probably just dumped a load of "composite" something in your mouth which won't last you more than a year or two - maybe three at best. A Finnish dentist did the same to my broken tooth - it felt like a lead weight in my mouth and lasted less than 18 months (no guarantee). Long story but I haven't been back there since.

This place http://kreativdentalclinic.eu/hinnasto/ ... simplantti has ISO9001 accreditation and looks like a pretty professional set-up.

The reason they are cheaper is that EVERYTHING is cheaper in Hungary: rents, salaries, taxes, overheads... the materials are only a small part of the cost.

What makes you think that Hungarian dentists use Korean "materials" (metal? porcelain?) did you google it somewhere or are you a dentist?

I received an implant mid-2005 in Germany which back then was relatively inexpensive (because I was considered an apprentice, i.e. lower income) at this point. The cost per implant back then was around € 1500.- (and < € 800.- for me). A regular dentist did the job and the implant is still functional and strong today. I received a guarantee that it will last at least 10 years back then.

Thanks for bringing up the topic, I have some dental work coming up as well.

Go to the Tallinn. Kaarli dental clinic
http://www.khp.ee/Eng
It is well known and good quality dental clinic. Implant price will be about 1000e and you will have all the warranties.
Don't think that Estonia is so low level :)
