Income proof in citizenship application

Post by somequest » Wed Sep 10, 2014 6:21 pm

Isn't it necessary? I filed an electronic application and booked a time. When I went to the police department, the lady only checked my Finnish certificate, nothing else.

A great surprise!

I took a big bag full of various documents, including these years' tax decisions. But only one piece of paper was checked (Finnish certificate). I suppose they can get my information during processing my application, but not a case where they will tell me "come again with this and that".

How do you think about this?

You sure you're Finnish enough you don't know tax records are public?

Yeah, that's the Finnish version of how the Norwegians refuse to close draperies and windowshades and suspect anyone who does of Nazi collaboration.

In Finland it's just bone-fear that a neighbor might be doing a little better than they ought to.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Finnish language exam certificate.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Hi all,

I have recently visited the local Cop Shop and filled out the paperwork for residing here in Finland. I got the all clear and received a document about a week later. I have now registered at the 'town hall' with the all clear paperwork and should receive my social security number any day now. This will of course allow me to work and sign (the already agreed) loan paperwork from the bank for the house we are about to buy.

At the police station i had to have an official document of proof of income ( in my case a monthly pension ). My girlfriend (Finnish Citizen) also had to provide her proof of income and a signed letter stating that i am living with her.

It might seem all a bit much compared to other countries. In UK there is no need to register as such and in Germany where i lived previously it was a case of showing your passport. I am in favour of checking who comes into your country more strictly and that person can at least provide for themselves whilst searching for a job etc.

We are supposed to be EU but we all know that each country has its own rules for everything. If you want to live somewhere then do it by their rules i say. Its a case of finding out what is required by that country and doing it. Moaning about it like i quickly realised to be pointless won't change anything :? Nothing is as bad as it seems :D
Forgive me my nonsense as I also forgive the nonsense of those who think they talk sense.

It would do most of us a great favour if they put that whole EU out of its missery. All work goes south meaning that there will be even less possibilities for foreigners to get work unless you want to do it for 4€ a hour. Also before EU it was possible to work here.

Just in case anyone is confused. I do agree that it's important to know who's here. Brits are forever complaining about illegals but don't do anything about stopping it ;)
Totally agree there, Britain is crazy when it comes to all that.... We moan and moan and do nothing as you say...that's why I totally don't mind when things are taking there time here for me...I get it...Britain should take a leaf out of this book... And sorry for going 'off subject' yes the thread was about citizenship... Just wanted to mention the proof of income thing...That's the way it goes in forums sometimes... Promise I won't do it again :D
